I found a beauty filter on my phone camera. I tried using it… No matter how I turned it up I couldn’t fade out my lines at the side of my nose and mouth…. So I gave up and decided to embrace my features! Black and white high contrast image and I increased the granularity of the image. I look tired (I am) and my hair was a mess, but who care? You just keep going….

A smoothly dimpled plastic box lid that I photographed and filtered through a few apps. I won’t go into detail but I’m pleased with the result, something between an x-ray photograph of a crystal lattice or a waffle covered in a purple fruit sauce?! Then with added scratches to give it an aged feel. I do love playing with images.
I saw this rainbow light reflected on my brushes this morning. It was being caused by a holographic sketchpad that was on the cupboard next to the brushes. The pad has been there for ages but I’ve never seen this before, it must just be because of the angle of the light. I might try and base a drawing or painting on it. Today’s
My hubby walking along a new path. It snakes around the trees and opens out new vistas. He was carrying a box and a bag of plants we had bought. I decided to change the colours to black and white. I usually like to keep the colours, but as I looked at the image black and white seemed to give the picture more impact and emotion. I think the figure of my hubby looks overwhelmed by his surroundings.
Yesterday I drew an horizon. But this was a photo I took that I almost worked from. I liked the serried rows of house rooves and chimneys , but they are capped with tower blocks and modern concrete buildings up in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. I decided that it wasn’t what I wanted to draw. Slate rooves, old and grey, covered in lichens, no longer wrapped in the smoke of potteries and bottle ovens. Cleaner air, further views.
Late night self portrait. Playing with filters on photodirector and Instagram. Trying to get the exposure right so it was dark enough but the highlights on my eyes, nose and mouth stood out. It looks almost wooden, like a ventriloquists dummy. I could have looked out from the photo but I think that would have creeped me out more!
A money plant on our windowledge. Duplicated photo, it’s tortuous shape given extra twists by mirroring it. The pale green leaves are a nasturtium that was planted inside. I hasn’t matured in time to produce flowers. I think this looks like a green carving or sculpture. It’s like an odd insect about to pounce, perhaps a preying mantis.
Looking like he’s holding Spode chimney up. My hubby allowed me to get him to hold his hand up as if he was leaning on the chimney and holding it up. It works surprisingly well. I’d seen this optical trick a few times and thought I would try to replicate it.
No, a mirrored photo, flipped on its vertical axis. The resulting image looks like a green island on a pond edged with a stone path. In actual fact this was a photo taken as we walked along the Trent and Mersey canal near Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent. Its strange how the eye sees symmetry as beautiful. Even ugly shapes can improve when you make them symmetrical. I also enjoy trying to create images that look like animals. If you follow this blog, or my Instagram page you will already know that.
