Pictures behind pictures, a wall full of images. The chimney brest is concrete so it took an effort to get the nails in!
It also has a mantlepiece with lots of ornaments, mainly cats. I’m not proud of my clutter, but I’m attached to it. I took a monochrome photo because the colours are a bit riotous!
Are you a clutter nutter? Do you ‘collect’ or ‘hoard’? I’m on the verge, I might slip into hoarding soon, but recently I have been trying to declutter. It’s not a rapid process. But I’m trying.

We have had snow warnings, for Thursday night and for Friday. We have had a lot of snow across the country over the last couple of days, but in the South and the North of the UK. But a low pressure zone is travelling up from the South, and an Arctic blast of cold air is coming from the North. The wet air from the south is due to turn into snow somewhere over the Midlands and Northern England (Staffordshire and Derbyshire). Lower levels are due to be 10 to 20 centimetres, but higher ground might get 40 centimeters. Not sure how much that is in inches but it sounds a lot? I think 12 centimeters is 4.7 inches? So today we got the shopping done. Made sense rather than getting caught out tomorrow or Friday.
No not missing in the fog, just missing fog. I lived in flat many years ago and we were half way up a tower block. I remember looking out of the kitchen window and the clouds were below me. When I walked outside I was in fog. Cold and grey, but it made the world interesting and indistinct. Sometimes driving home at night we would encounter fog patches or banks of fog. Driving in and out of them made me very cautious. There were stories of people following the rear lights of cars into people’s drives because they hadn’t realised that the car had turned off the road and they had been following to find their way around.
These days we don’t seem to get much. Is the air dryer so mist does not form? Is the humidity of the air too low? I miss the fog
I took the photo in Hanley Park a few years ago. I really like the wonderful blurred areas of part of it, unfocused and softened. I like the way it removed colour, making the image monochrome. I miss fog…
Red velvet coloured eye. Digital doodle, just playing with monochrome colours using one part of the spectrum, a deep red and it’s associated colours with added black and white. I tried to make it look three dimensional to give it a realistic effect. Not bad for a digital finger painting.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was monochrome. I did a monochrome drawing in black conte crayon of my husband having a nap. When I took a photo it looked brown under my kitchen lights but I used a black and white filter and autocolour to get it looking right. This is the first sketch in a new A5 size sketchbook.
I has to check the meaning of Monochrome because someone said on Facebook that black and white is achromatic. I’m pretty sure that means without colour. Like transparent liquids. But I wasn’t sure whether black and white was dichromatic or duochromatic? Anyway I think I was correct in my original suggestion. Words re such interesting things,
I almost forgot to post today’s prompt for our #bandofsketchers group. The category was Monochrome. I decided to draw a few Christmas presents in black and white. Is that duochrome?
Anyway I tried to draw the calendar we got for 2021, a cat moneybox, a synthetic pearl necklace with a mother of pearl pendant, and a book on Art and Illustration.
I decided to make a drawing of a tree shape then played with it in various apps to change its colour and shape.
I love old fashioned Art Nouveau and Rennie Mackintosh designs from the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth century. Also the Arts and Crafts movement. We have become so interested in glossy and sleek, modern, monochrome that we don’t seem to recognise that patterns can be exciting and interesting. You can do anything you want really.

Moody duplicated photo. Created by taking a photo of the outer branches of a tree so that once mirrored the branches seem to float and create a pattern. Though not black and white there is a monochrome effect because of the silhouettes of the branches and the mainly grey skies. Ancient aliens seem to hovver over the ground.
Or was it the year before? We went to see a play at Spode, another by Debbie McAndrew, probably Hot Lane. There was a car from the 1950’s as part of the set up. It was parked in the pathway between some of the buildings at the Spode Site. I took a picture of it and decided to make it look more authentic by turning it into a black and white photo.
I like monochrome pictures, they can be more atmospheric. I hope you like it.
