I was playing about with lines then added the grey infill. What does this remind me of? Tyre tracks! So I can’t say much more than that. I may have some more I can do with this. Or not. It’s only a sketch but it was fun to do. Convoluted complications. X
Digital finger painting.
Done late last night, I was in a doodling mood. I completely covered another drawing I had saved but wasn’t very pleased with. Its interesting to do this because by saving changes I’m not adding a new file and I hope it means I am saving some phone memory. Yes I draw on my phone, so the tiny screen makes it hard to add details.
I think my pigeon has a bit of sass, he’s cheeky and he’s just taking off to make mischief somewhere….
Seeing Pudsey bear 🐻 on children in need last night (a telethon to raise money for childrens charities) reminded me of this teddy bear. We went on holiday to a Youth Hostel in the Lake District of England one year. The hostel was old, small and friendly. It was at Thirlmere near the lake and consisted of a few simple wooden huts. The hostel warden was called Ray and he was really friendly. There were a wide range of old board games in the hostel so on a dark wet night, you were entertained without the need of a TV or radio, (this was before mobile phones). One thing Ray did to raise funds was to sell knitted Teddy bears that his mother made. I fell in love with this one, but Ray said that it had to have Ray in its name… Raymond, Ray-chel, perhaps? I’d heard of the gas Radon so my bear became Raydon, after all in that colour he virtually glows in the dark!

Where do doodles come from, why are they satisfying if you get the pattern right. Simple black lines twisted and convoluted. If I had drawn just a straight line how far would it stretch? Can you see bears or frogs in this? Or Elizabethan ruffs perhaps? Would you draw anything like this or would it be angular or something different? Playing with lines is fun and engrossing. Why not try taking a line for a walk as it’s sometimes called?
Post it notes and plastic metallic colour discs. Thought about a pattern that I could make, using arrow shaped post it notes I decided to place the pointed bits over the discs. Have a glue stick, water soluble, so I glued each individual piece of paper and plastic… It took two hours! By the time I’d done it (after accidentally dropping the discs and the glue stick on the floor) my fingers were covered in a sticky gluey mess. Thank goodness it’s soluble!
I know there are better carvings, but I really enjoyed creating this. We didn’t have posh carving tools, just a few knives. I’ve seen pumpkins where just the outer rind is carved away so you get a shallow relief effect. I like it but I guess you would have to use clay modelling tools?
Apparently wild animals can eat the remains of the pumpkin once its been use for decoration. I don’t think hedgehogs like them though? I’m not sure feild mice would like one carved like a cat? Anyway it was fun to do. And it works as a ginger cat, X
I did this painting a few months ago in metallic watercolours which are lovely, but I can’t find them now. I wanted to use them a few times but I think I put them somewhere ‘safe’ but I have so much art stuff, old paints, pencils, pens, that sometimes I can’t find them. Yes buying to many art supplies is bad. It’s consuming too much perhaps, but I try and balance that with other purchases.
I want to try and paint on black paper and I thought these metallic paints would stand out better against it. I shall go on a hunt for them. My idea is to paint gleaming frosty leaves to celebrate the autumn chills.
More experiments for my dragon project. Converting one of the patterns to black and white gives me an idea of how it would look if I had not got full colour options. I can still create complexity and light and shade even in different greys. Duplicating and mirroring are used again to add intricate patterns. I shall save these for possible use.
Swirls drawn digitally. Artrage oils and photodirector. Draw swirls then play with editing options. You can do all sorts of things with digital apps. I feel like this is a little like a coral surface or a Mandala.
Pattern again, my thing, I suppose I will never get enough of it. Something happens in my brain and I have to do this. I’m addicted to art and patterns. I love convolutions.
