Purple swan

This was a drawing experiment a few years ago. It was an ArtRage oils drawing, using colours then mainly the dry marker to subdue the strength of the original brushes. You can use a sliding scale to alter the brush sizes and strength of the metallic colours, so sometimes the colours look shiny and other times matt. It’s worth playing with different tools in apps, it increases your knowledge. I’ve found some apps really difficult to use, especially if I don’t use them very often. But I will modify what I do, and play around with things to see what results I get. I end up with a series of images, then edit out ones I don’t like. Sometimes I keep all of them so I can show how my work progresses.

Grab a stylus and doodle your cat. I used ArtRage oils to draw this. I didn’t have enough memory on my phone so I deleted it, but I’ve uploaded it onto another device. So maybe I can get on and do a few more digital drawings.

Lockdown, I hope it means I will be doing more art, if I can get my mojo back.

Does being shut for the duration mean you’ve lost yours too or are you being brilliantly creative?

Stay indoors, stay safe…. X

Fish

DSC_2455

I’m in another Art group called Etruria Artists. We usually meet on a Thursday but because we are in lockdown we are trying to keep going by doing weekly projects. I was interested in drawing a fish or fishes and this drawing was the result. I tried to show the way water moves and ripples. The fish is a bit weird I’m afraid. Let me know if you have any projects on the go…

Alphabet

Late night doodling over a couple of nights. Staying up late, listening to the news and drawing at the same time. Used contrasting colours to try and bring out the letters, plus outlining things in black. It’s a pleasure to draw things.

I think this looks like an old fashioned sampler and could imagine it in embroidery on canvas or linen. One way of relaxing in these stressful times. Why not create your own?

Photo manipulation

The finger and the nose never touched. This is two photos, joined together, then I’ve drawn over the background and blurred it. I got my hubby to hold his hand out, a bit like in the painting of Adam and God’s hands in the Sistine Chapel, then I got my cat to sniff my hand, but I specifically wanted a male hand, so I’ve cropped the two together. I’ve blurred the background to look like clouds (and hide the messy background). I’m just wondering now if it’s gone a bit ‘ET phone home’?

The pale blue is where I drew a line. I tried to flood fill the background, but it didn’t work well. Anyway it’s almost 3.30am, so enough experimenting. Goodnight all.

Just doodling

What to do when you are watching TV and you want to draw? Wait for the ad break and draw something quickly.

I’m watching something called the Great Pottery Throw down where twelve potters compete each week to make the best ceramics. This week the challenge is to make a six piece coffee set with a caffitierre, two expresso cups and saucers and a toast rack. Really enjoying watching people design, make and fire pots. Watching clay dry and drawing… Fun!

Autumn drawing

_20191029_231959

Just a doodle using the winter tree idea but with autumn leaves. The base is meant to be pebbles and rocks with a mountain stream running below the tree. Faces of spirits again populate the tree. I think they would be more aggressive or annoyed than the winter one, Im not sure why. Perhaps the cold autumn winds are getting on their nerves! I love the dark crystal film and the creatures in there, maybe that’s what’s influencing me?

Cafe sketch

_20190614_190102

Drawn while waiting for a friend, the cake stands are bright pink and full of sugary delights that I avoided. I had strawberries and cream and a fruit smoothie which was made of smooshed frozen berries and very cold! This was a 20 minute drawing so didn’t go for any details. The woman walked along to the till as I was drawing so fitted her in at that end. Since urban sketchers last weekend I’m doing more of this kind of thing.
