This time of year is custard pie or cream pie time….. Oh yes it is? Oh no it isn’t!
What I mean is that usually it would be time for Pantomimes (pantos) in theatres across the land. Last year we were rehearsing Aladdin in our local village hall. We went on to perform it in February of this year. 180 people in a small room for for performances! Impossible now.
Sadly so many theatres are closed and shuttered. There is great concern that they will never open again. Instead of fun there is tragedy.
A digital drawing that I used texture and flood fill on. I feel like the result is somehow alien, maybe some sort of spiritual feeling. Maybe it’s the colours that seem like stained glass. The purple coming down the nose reminds me of a helmet with light shining on it. The front of the body could be interpreted as a chest plate or armour.
When you are adding texture it’s interesting to decide when to stop. The same with the flood fill. Too much or not enough? I think you learn as you go along what sort of image you want.
Digital sketch. Rocking horse. Using a drawing app, then playing with it to try and make it look like a linocut print. I tried changing the background colours and textures to see what it would look like if it were printed on different papers.
I did this drawing in an app called sketcher that I used to use a lot on my tablet, but when I got a new phone I found I was creating a lot of things on it and neglecting some of the apps on other devices. Having too many choices or just lucky to have them? But I do need to try and keep my hand in with other apps.
Digital art I did in 2003. It feels very appropriate for the current situation. It’s based on a photocopy of my hand and then I put it through photoshop to add interesting colours and textures. It is called lifeline and it’s on my mantlepiece. I might try and do something else like this….
But in Edinburgh yesterday they got it! Basically it was a thunderstorm but because it was so cold there was snow instead of rain. The descriptions were that the lightening was brighter then normal (the whiteness of the snow made the light reflect more brilliantly). The thunder sounded like an explosion (muffled by the snow and clouds). Some people even rang the emergency services. Apparently its a rare phenomena but not unknown.
Just to be awkward.. an Orca I drew at the sketchfu website. Simple tools so its a bit blurry. I’m not sure, but I think Orcas (killer whales) may eat Dolphins?
I know they are very intelligent. Often swim in pods (groups) and use various techniques to catch fish. one of their skills is to collaborate in a group to blow thousands of bubbles, their actions create a “bubble net” that enclose a school of fish and then they grab the fish that have been surrounded.
I also know thwy are Mammals and evolved on land before returning to the water, hence they have blow holes to breathe through the tops of their heads. Their front fins are formed adapted like paddles, but the bone structure is similar to that of a hand. I think I remember that they even have vestigial leg bones attached to their pelvises?
Orcas, Dolphins, and other whales are all part of a family of mammals called Cetaceans. They are some of the most intelligent animals on the planet, and humans have almost driven some of them to extinction or actually hunted some of them to extinction. I still think Whaling should be banned.
I fancy some cherries , it being completely the wrong time of year for them, this is a digital drawing done at sketchfu years ago. The site is closed now but it had simple tools you could use without adding layers (something I need to learn). This was a challenge to draw from a photo…
I keep finding old drawings and pictures so I just post the ones I like.
I was looking for a digital drawing to show a friend on zoom because I was trying to explain you can draw with a stylus on a drawing tablet, and without having to add layers. I drew this on sketchfu about ten year ago. This is a print off on paper. I have not got many printed versions of my digital drawings….
I took my tablet to a life drawing class a couple of years ago. I wanted to see what a digital drawing would look like. I chose to use a program called sketcher free that gives you different texture tools, like fur long fur, ribbon, chrome, and other pens. You can chose the background colour. You can also use a colour slider and picker and a change in pen sizes. It’s a bit complicated to choose a pen shape that translates to the drawing well. There are other programs that are simpler to use but I liked (as usual) the patterned effect I created.
