Two sunsets, two days

A few days ago there was a reddish sunset, today it was more silvery. Each one was beautiful.

I like the glow in the sky on the second one. I’m sad when the sun goes down in the winter because of how long it is until the sun returns in the morning. As the days go on I look forward to longer days.

I’m already noticing the  change of position of the sunrise and Sunset, gently moving along the horizon, gradually changing the time it rises and sets.

The weather should look very different on Sunday. A storm called Keira is on its way,  due to give gale force winds.

In the meantime if I see more beautiful skies I will post pictures. X

Memory 2012

2012….Another Sunday morning, husband went off about 15 minutes ago, and me and the cat are here waiting for the sun to rise. The sky had gone from coal black to a dark shade of Paynes Grey, in fact in the few minutes since I sat down it has lightened considerably….. The cat is happily lying on the desk next to the computer, turning over to have her tummy tickled, she doesnt like being ignored and keeps trying to sit on my drawing tablet that also acts as my mouse! that knocks the text off so I have to reposition the cursor every couple of minutes…The blackbirds were singing in the garden at 6.30, husband went out to listen and one carried on while the other Pink, pinked its alarm call… the song continues high and beautiful, shapley whistles that vary over different combinations of notes…. I am staying up in case his bus does not arrive. One last look at the sky, only slightly lighter, blue grey, no glimmer of sun yet and overcast with lowish cirrus? clouds…thank goodness for the prospect of a warm bed and a book if he does not come back. (It has happened in the past when the bus driver forgot to get up!)

On the windowledge.

Got up and saw one of the cats sitting on the windowledge in the front bedroom. She likes watching the traffic passing and seeing the pigeons fly up onto the factory roof. The picture is grainy because it was very early in the morning, about the same time I took photos of the dawn. Cats are curious creatures. They love looking at things, playing with their toys and chasing each other. But sometimes they have a quiet moment and just sit and watch the world go by.

Good morning world

DSC_2408

Welcome to the dawn of a new decade.

Let’s try and be optimistic,

do something to improve the world

instead of destroying it.

Use less plastic stuff,

eat more organic food.

Drink clean water at last,

instead of tainted.

Free workers from slavery,

pay a decent wage.

Let the sky glow at dawn and dusk

not from forest fires.

House the homeless in decent shelters

along with refugees…

Care for one another

and the life of the world.

Reduce energy usage,

and combat Global warming.

Then we might survive,

to the Next Decade.

Fingers crossed.

Sunrise

Soon all the leaves will be gone. A big storm is due in overnight so I guess they will be torn from the trees. My hanging baskets still have a few flowers opening in them despite the minus temperatures we have had. The sky has been lovely in the last few mornings, with gentle hints of colour, rosy glows and golden hues.

Then it will be time to cur back and prune some of the trees. Tidying up a little bit, but not enough to harm where the birds sleep. Now dawn is getting later, after 7am. It means I get to see more of them. X

Red morning sky

I woke up to this red sky about half an hour ago. The sky is now more yellow and the sun is above the horizon. The light is streaming through the leaves and lighting them up. The red sky does not bode well for later on… Red sky in the morning shepherd’s warning (or sailors), but it certainly makes a breathtaking sight right in the heart of the city.

Dawn colours

DSC_1912_optimized I’m thinking of painting a bright sky, filled with violets and pinks, ochre and brownish reds. Showing the sun rising behind clouds, leaves and telephone wires framing the dawn.

I’m wondering how to mix the colours so they glow? Should I use golds and silvers to enhance it.

I’m thinking of painting the world anew. Rich colours exploding in the morning light.

Pink dawn

A rosy dawn this morning foretold rough weather later. We have had cold strong winds and hail showers! I feel sorry for the baby tomato and other plants we have outside. They should be hardened off by now but cold weather keeps coming back. We have also not had much rain over the last month. When we do get it we have heavy showers. Cloud bursts and bolts of lightning. Pink dawns ar harbingers of rough weather.

The dawn chorus has started. There is a blackbird singing outside. It’s melody riding and falling. The wind is moaning through gaps in the window. But I don’t mind it, at least I don’t live in a totally sealed box.

I’ve been up for an hour. Stomach pains, nothing serious, just annoying and I couldn’t sleep. The cat rubbed round my ankles then decided to go and sleep on the back of the sofa. She must be a mind reader, she just came back to see me! Little purring cat always cheers me. Oh now the other one is awake. Now we will have catch chase. Like children playing they run up and down. Pouncing on each other, play fighting. Must be to do with terratorial issues. Sometimes I have to tell them off when they get too boisterous.

Well I’d better try and get some sleep. It’s cold in here and I want to snuggle under the duvet. It’s been a cold dry spring so far.

See ya!
