New paintings and regular art updates.

I drew an empty box and envelopes for my #bandofsketchers prompt today. I included the newspaper to make it more interesting. Just a fine line pen on cartridge paper. I get a lot of enjoyment out of these prompts. Helping me keep my hand in…

Yesterday’s #bandofsketchers sketch was tools, the hammers are a bit rusty. The mole grips are out of the ark. I put them an a cushion as an interesting background. It is only a very quick sketch but I enjoyed doing it. Theres another group I’m in #uskstoke, Stoke Urban Sketchers is starting doing virtual sketch outs because of lockdown. So might be posting some more pictures here from that.

The prompt was Blue for #bandofsketchers today. I decided to use a black pen to draw my box of old nail varnishes. I coloured the bottles with the blue nail varnishes that I have. One way of using them up.

Today’s sketch for #bandofsketchers, the theme is red. Not many trees in this country turn bright red in autumn. I think that’s because we don’t get cold enough weather to force the chlorophyll out of the leaves to turn them to brighter colours (is the red xanthophyll?) long time since I did O level biology!
Anyway these were on the road outside so I did a quick sketch and then filled it in. I’m afraid I cheated as it was so wet and windy so I did use a reference photo to try and get the right colours. Another sketch with permanent markers.

Todays band of sketchers prompt was emotion. I tried to draw myself doing an evil laugh. Permanent marker drawing. I was drawing by the light of a standard lamp to excentuate the shadows on my face. It’s a bit scruffy and odd because some of the pens are running out and it was difficult to differentiate between the colours on the pen tops. I wanted to say ‘Grr Argh!’ which was the sound that was at the end of Buffy the Vampire slayer programmes, oh yes I was a Buffy fan.

It’s Yellow… The colour for today’s #bandofsketchers prompt.
Is is the heater we have on in the living room to boost the warmth. It’s usually a cat magnet but they were not playing today. We do have a large wooden cat but I have accentuated the colour of it and made it larger to increase the line of yellow that runs through the drawing.
This was done with felt pens and permanent marker pens. I wonder what colour we will get next.

Today’s prompt was Rooves (roofs). I looked out of all my windows and this view from the back of our house came closest to the remit. The sun was low and shining in as I drew this so I had to scoot across the bed so that I didn’t get completely dazzled. Most of the view is taken up with shrubs and trees. A few roofs in the distance, in silhouette. I managed to see more as the sun started to set, but it had to be done quickly. For our #bandofsketchers group.

My ‘music’ sketch. We have a stack of music playing equipment over in the corner, CD player, cassette player, speaker and loads of old videos etc. All a bit out of date now. Sadly we mainly listen to the radio so it’s all gathered dust recently.
For the #bandofsketchers series of sketches I’m doing to respond to prompts that are posted every other day. If you come to Facebook and look for band of sketchers you could join in.

Today’s prompt for #bandofsketchers was a drawing of a body part, so I chose to draw my hand, drawing the sketch! I’ve seen other drawings where a person has drawn their hand and a sketch pad balanced on their crossed legs. Adding the shadow of my pen and my hand on the sketchbook to try and indicate this is a sketch, also not completing the line at the base of the box. When I do a sketch like this I have to try and think logically about how it works, what it’s meant to indicate and whether I need to include all the details or if I can leave some more sketchy.

Today’s prompt was neighbourhood again, to give us the chance to expand (and possibly join up) with Sundays and Thursdays sketches.
This is the view across the road from my front food. Dark cloud lowering, sun hitting coloured leaves, painted in watercolours on black paper. I used white watercolour from a tube to try and cover the black paper. The other colours had to have white mixed in so that I could get the colours to show up on the black paper. I’m quite pleased with the result.
