Butterfly idea

Drew a spiral and duplicated it. (I think it looked like the cross section of a trunk). Then I drew round the duplicated pieces in black (using a symmetry tool so both sides match). It’s quite simple to do. I guess if I was cutting it out of paper I could have folded it in half and got a similar effect….

Doodled face

We have come to the end of the semester at college but have been asked to create a new way of illustration over the holidays. So what do I do? I’m thinking of boiling some spaghetti and trying to colour it then manipulate it? Or getting some play sand and drawing with that. It’s not something an illustration would normally be made of, but why not?

Another doodle

And now I’ve tried doodling in another app. This is meant to be an Elf? I guess for Christmas. I can draw faces from life and from photos . But from my imagination? I’m out of practice, especially on digital devices. I quite like this, its in the ArtRage app and I like the metallic effect you can get. But again, I’m lacking in knowledge of how it works, I’m not proficient yet.

Does anyone like drawing digitally? Have you got any tips or have I got to go and look at a lot of YouTube videos to learn? I ask because I learn by playing, but then don’t know basic skills like how to use layers in photoshop properly….

Prompt ‘shiny’

Spoon on a chair throw. My version of shiny… My drawing for today’s #bandofsketchers prompt.

Drawn with felt pens and permanent marker pens. Why a spoon? It was an opportunity to draw the bowl of the spoon and the way the reflections curve round it. The handle is a bit wonky, but not bad. Reasonably happy with it.

Been neglecting my blog.

My mind is on my college course. We are at the end of another semester and I have to hand my work in today. Learning to write academically is hard. Referencing quotes, using citations. I guess someone who does it all the time will find it easy. It’s all part of the learning process. Anyway I should be a bit more ‘present’ over the next few weeks. Hope I don’t bore you.

Sky portrait artist of the year programme

Watched Sky Portrait artist of the year, semi final with Booker Prize winner, Bernadine Evaristo as the sitter. I got an image of her from the net and tried to draw her. It’s not a good likeness but I tried. Thirty to Forty minute drawing. Felt pens on cartridge paper.

Found old paints

Found these paints in the back of a drawer. About thirty years old!

They are Rowney Oils and Windsor and Newton Watercolours and a box of various paints, chalks, and coloured pencil. Goodness knows why they got put away. I haven’t checked the oils, they may have dried out, but the watercolours and chalks and pencils should be fine. I think I could call this a win!
