He was a mad cat,
Jumped on kites,
sat in the middle of the road.
Climbed shelves,
ran round the local shop.
Climbed the curtains,
chased dogs
Mad yowling,
Running round at high speed.
Pouncing and preening.

This cat is definitely too friendly. He was trying to come in the back door tonight. We have put an old cat carrying basket out for him inside of a black plastic bag to keep off the rain. There is a towel inside the basket to give him something warm to lie on and it’s placed under the overhang of the summerhouse to keep off the rain. We will contact our local pdsa to see if they can offer advice. I still think he’s big and healthy enough to have a home. I will see what they say.

Slither, slink, shuffle, slip, slide, glide, gliding, snaking along the ground, writhing, side to side. Your scales patterned like strange jewels. You sniff with your tongue, viper split, sensing the air.
A tube of muscle, constrictor or viper with poison bite. Fangs deep in my flesh pierce my heart. Cobra or mamba, rattler or adder. Bringer of fear to some.

Facebook just showed me this from a year ago. I had visited Hartshill and harpfields organisations summer fete and they had a stall with grass snakes, a boa constrictor, lizards and tarantulas. They were all well looked after and I got to hold this corn snake. You can feel the muscles tense and relax under its skin.
The first time I ever held a snake was in juniot school. Everyone else was scared and thought they would be slimy. They are not. Their skin is smooth and warm. Just because they are cold blooded does not make them cold animals.
I always ask to hold snakes if they are on display on stalls..

I’ve worked myself to a standstill with this. I’m getting rather tired but I’ve got a lot more to do so I won’t stick around for long. Just having a breather.

This cheeky horse appealed to me the moment I saw the photo by my friend Eve. I was going to paint it in naturalistic colours but started underpainting it in red and that grew on me. I added a metallic blue sky to give contrast and atmosphere. Grey ground to make the land look dark and gloomy. This is another work in progress. I have a lot of ideas but I’m not sure if I will get them all done in time for an Exhibition at the end of May. X
The weather here is very wet and windy so I’m concentrating on doing some painting. I decided to paint a zebra yesterday. I sketched it out last night but didn’t start on it properly till today. I’ve extended the muzzle and made its mane black and white. It seems to be shaded with brown dust. Possibly it has been having a dust bath. I hope to finish it and my owl painting today. It’s also taking my mind off a toothache I have after eating a cashew nut.
It’s sunny by the sofa and our tom cat never fails to find the sun. As the light moves across the room he will follow it. Eyelids drooping as he naps. Head nodding. Whiskers splayed in the sunlight. Plants display phototropism, bending towards sunlight. Is this an example of ‘catatropism’ (or would that be humans moving towards cats?).
In the case of these seedlings I have to turn them round because they bend each day towards the light. True phototropism. But the cat has also moved again.
He’s a true sun seeker.
A friend was doing some work on our garden today and he bought his dog with him. This is him sitting in the Land rover. He enjoyed coming out and seeing us working along the alleyway.
He has such a nice friendly nature, he put his paw up and wanted his chest rubbing. Then he let me scratch him behind his ears. I loved him pushing his head into my hand. He even licked my nose.
I know he’s a collie dog and he should be herding sheep probably. But it was just nice to meet a friendly animal. He only barked when the Land rover left, because he didn’t want to go!

Being owlish I look carefully at things,
I see them from my flying wings.
I hoot with laughter when I hear a joke.
I spy mice and voles at a stroke,
Will my owlish brain outwit you?
Never know what hit you?
I swoop down so soft and quiet
To consume my rodent diet….
My talons and beak are sharp
Winging down over hill and park.
A barn to rest in is all I ask.
A nest to build is my task.
My eggs and chicks they grow fast
Gobble up food, a tasty repast.
Then once they are grown the fledge
And out to the world they emerge.
So this old owl will towoo some more.
To hear the twit of my Amore.
