Green eyed

Don’t be jealous, she said. I deserve it, you don’t!

Huh! What a cheek, I thought.

Her sister piped up.. Yeah we are better than you!

I was young and naive and hated the way they spoke to me. I didn’t know how to fight back. I never guessed the jealousy was theirs. They always ganged up on me.

So I sat and cried, tried hard not to think about how they treated me… Thinking about a distant future where I would go to college and become a doctor or a scientist? A lawyer or an engineer….

Cinder-Ella! They shouted down to the skullery. Get that washing done then start cooking dinner!

I wiped my eyes and put my mind to the work…..

Sea painting

Watercolour sketch, I think it was in Cornwall or Devon, one day we’d gone down to a harbour and I used to take watercolours and sketch pads with me on our visits. Sometimes I left them at our holiday let’s as a gift to say thank you for a lovely time.

The geology of Devon and Cornwall includes dark craggy rocks which is why I recognise the area.

Tortilla pockets with quorn mince.

Serves two.

Ingredients

Fajhita seasoning, four tortilla pouches, small packet of quorn mince, a small onion, a few spears of asparagus, a few baby corn, half a jar of harissa paste, a small amount of cheese (you could use a vegan substitute) olive oil. Salsa sauce.

Method, break up the frozen quorn mince and fry in a frying pan with a small amount of olive oil, slice the baby corn into small rounds, keep the heat low, add the fajhita spice and continue to cook. Slice up the onion and add to the mix, then chop up the asparagus and add it to the mix. Add some water to the pan to stop the mixture drying out. Add the harissa paste and stir well. Let the mixture simmer for ten minutes. Add the salsa sauce (or if you want to add at the end). Microwave a couple of tortilla pockets then spoon the mix into them. Top with grated cheese. Any left over mixture can be served with the pockets on the plates.

Serve as a tasty meal for two…

‘Balti’ printer?

After a week of trying to get my new printer to work I finally gave up and took it back to the shop. The computer man changed the inks, tried doing a scan and a print, but apart from the very faintest small amount of blue lines nothing showed up. Half an hour of watching him try and work it out and we both concluded it was faulty. I rang hubby to say unlock the front door, I would be bringing the replacement printer home as the one I had bought last week was faulty.

Silence for a second, then my hubby asked. ‘you’re bringing home a Balti?’

No I said, ‘faulty’. He again asked if it was a Balti? I give up! I walked home with the printer. I got home and almost told him his tea was in the printer!

By the way I have to rate the computer shop as very good and helpful…

Reflected idea

Tuesdays #bandofsketchers prompt was based on the prompt ‘reflection’. I hadn’t got much time, so I based this on a mirrored photo of one of my cats, the little female one.

I took the liberty of changing the colour to hold with different patterns on each cats coat. The hearts are for how much I love my cats, I also feel it looks a bit like a playing card.

How can the cat trust me?

Since he came home, I’ve had to give my cat eye drops and antibiotics. Every day he sits a bit further away from me. He is a bit more wary, nervous. It’s not surprising. Yesterday he was checked over by a vet and given another lot of antibiotics. I understand why, he needs them to help him heal. But it doesn’t make it any easier. If he wasn’t such a patient cat I don’t know what I would have done…. X

Heron

Seen today in Etruria

that grey thing is a Heron, or as a little child that was passing said ‘an evil heron’! It really did look prehistoric.

At Etruria on the Cauldon branch of the canal. The bird walked along the canal towpath then stood crouched at the side of the water. It was ready to spear into the canal to catch a fish. More intent on staring than wo was watching it. I was amazed to get photos of it.
