Oh I do like hot cats!
Not to eat,
Not dogs,
Not hot dogs!
Warm cats….
Seeing them
Chasing a patch of sun.
Or snuggled up
On the bed
Or on a sleeping pad
Makes me happy.
They are warm
And happy too!
New paintings and regular art updates.

Our outside cat really does seem to appreciate us. Often he puts out his paw and touches me as if he is confirming to himself that I am real, that I exist. It is somehow a gesture of reassurance. Trust, acceptance. I feel so privileged that he seems to know we care about him.
This photo was just taken. He wants to sit between us on the armchair arms. My hubby pats the cushion on the arms and he jumps up. He’s now resting his head on the arm. Soon he will be asleep.
My indoor cats still get attention, I see the look of love in their faces, slightly closing their eyes in a look of pleasure, but I guess our outdoor cat needs that extra bit of care. He was rejected and abandoned by his previous owners and its taken about three years to get him in and really gain his trust. We love him.
A ‘sort of’ view of my living room, with a tidy floor, no throws on the settee, the gas fire visible, the mantlepiece and chimney breast a bit too narrow. I’ve included some of the books and ornaments, but nowhere near all of them. I was trying to draw by the view from my eyes and it all went a bit fish eye lens. I’m writing this at 3.30am, with sore knees and feet, I walked another 4.4 miles today (yesterday?), anyway day 31 of my #100daywalkingchallenge… Almost a third of it done. I don’t think I will stop now unless I get too much pain. The other reason I can’t sleep? The outdoor cat is sleeping on my side of the bed, and unlike my hubby I try to keep my feet away from him, so I don’t accidentally kick him… He snores (well both of them do!) Night xx

Since the middle of winter our outdoor cat has come in every day, and most nights he sleeps at least a couple of hours on the bed. He’s a big cat, and waking up with him lying on your chest is a bit startling. Then he reaches out one or both front paws in a gesture of trust. He’s not very keen on being touched. His nose has been scratched by other cats several times (no real animosity between him and my other two cats though). But he’s well fed now and you can see he’s greatful… And he’s like skippy the Bush kangaroo (a reference to a 1960’s kids TV programme…) he points at things. He looks at his bowl when he wants food, the door if he wants to be let out, but more than that, his body language communicates, and if I tap somewhere on the bed with my hand he will go there… And being touched by his paw on my hand is so sweet.

Outdoor cat update
He sleeps on the bed
I get up to let him out
I get up to let him in
I have to move my legs
To give him room
I get up to feed him
I love him
How did that happen?!

Sleeping, resting
Eyes tight shut
Gentle snoring
Dreaming but
Soon the first
Dream twitching starts..
His eyebrows furl
His nostrils flare
What thoughts are running
Through his nightmare.
And then
And then
A single sigh
And peace and calm
Take over again.
Sleep
Rest
Relax…
Morphius returns.

I sometimes think our outdoor cat knows he’s onto a good thing…. Its been raining heavily and blowing 60 mile an hour winds, but he insists on going outside. The shed door is propped slightly open so he can shelter, but after an hour I shouted him. He came in, a bit damp, had something to eat and drink then went back to the door with my hubby. He was standing there holding the door open, but the cat didn’t want to go out. So then he came and sat on our armchairs (there’s a cushion between us), but no, I tried stroking him, he jumped off and tried out our bedroom, but soon came back downstairs. Now he’s sitting and staring at me. I also think he’s a bit nervous of the noise the gale is making. He keeps staring at the window. I can understand my two indoor cats, but this one is new. I can’t mind read what he wants yet……

On windowsills
On beds
In front of fires
Our three cats keep warm.
They snuggle
Curl and stretch
Heat seekers
Where the warmest places are
You will find them.
On the coldest nights
They each have their ‘spot’.
There comfy place.
To sleep and rest
And RELAX.

You know that feeling when you might be being taken advantage of? The outside cat came in at about 6pm. Had a meal, a good drink, then popped upstairs to sleep on our bed. Now, 11.30pm, he’s come down, come and looked at us for a minute in the living room, gone off, had a drink, then waited by the back door to be let out.
Cats, they really do have humans under their claws! I’m supplying bed, breakfast and an evening meal. I do think he’s getting more social, but he’s got the best side of the deal!

Nose down
Whiskers twitch
Paws paddle
Snore
Asleep
Put a paw
Over your nose
Chase mice or birds
Toys or string
Wake up refreshed
Having slept
Time to race
And chase……
