I feel sad when I run out of paper for my sketches. I need to get a new one!

New paintings and regular art updates.

What on earth do you draw? I tried to think, but dreams are so ephemeral and hard to remember. They are fantastical and sometimes full of bizarre images. But I decided to draw a simple dream of a cat scooping up a fish… Hopefully it falls plop! Back into the pond!
#30daysketchbookchallenge, Day 23 drawing. Sun and Moon in an eclipse. I couldn’t get the black dark enough and the colours bright enough so I used Instagram filters on it….

I’ve seen a couple of eclipses in the UK. They were only partial eclipses but by looking in a bowl of water, and also the dark reflective paint on my car I managed to see something. Also the phenomenon of curved moon shapes of light caused by light from the partially eclipsed sun shining through vegitation.
NEVER LOOK AT THE SUN DIRECTLY EVEN IN AN ECLIPSE. IF YOU ARE USING FILTER GLASSES MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT FAKE. IF YOU LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN YOU CAN BE BLINDED!

Today’s #bandofsketchers challenge was to draw nature. I looked out of my window. There was the tangle of trees and vegitation out there plus bright blue sky and white rooves covered in snow. The ivy is scrambling up the trees and the buddliea bushes need cutting back….
Watercolour sketch.
I miss my Mom, its been around ten years since she died, but I often wish I could just phone her up for advice. I did a painting of her in 2008 and I just did this sketch from it. I can see so many mistakes. I need to set an easle up. Trying to draw while holding the painting… Tired arms…

The best thing are her eyes, they are right…
If you want something difficult to draw with try one of those ink rollers that you can cover over your name and address with.
I decided to see how it would handle. The answer? Hard to manipulate. Difficult to draw thin and curved lines.
Anyway, this is a profile portrait of my hubby.

Day 18, reptile. Well I don’t own any, but I remembered having a tortoise when I was little. I have a vague idea of what the shells look like. I added some gold glitter. I have given it some lettuce to eat.

I probably haven’t made it three dimensional enough, but it was starting to look overworked…

#30daysketchbookchallenge Day 16, something old.. A thirty year old angel Christmas candle has sat on our mantlepiece for years. I sometimes think of lighting it but then I stop myself….
Felt pens and coloured pencils….

Today’s #30daysketchbookchallenge was to create an image starting with the letter C. So I decided to paint the cat having a wash by the heaters in the living room. Quick five minute sketch.
Watercolour washes. He kept moving!

When your husband goes shopping….. Not sure which of these are essential… Day thirteen, #30daysketchbookchallenge, watercolour sketch, gloves, whisky, cycling magazine and newspaper. A very male collection of purchases.
