Cat asleep

He’s on the edge of the settee and looks like he might slide off! Fast asleep, taking up all the space. I’d like to sit there but I’ve been ousted from the space by this cat! I went to make a coffee and he snuck up. I have a seat on an armchair. And as if on cue, my girl cat just came up and tried to sharpen her claws on my leg. She’s taken over my footstool. Cats rule in this house!

Early morning

Early morning, looking up from the settee where I’m currently sleeping, I can look over at the ceiling and see the shadow cast across it by one of the living room lights. It’s in black and white because the colours were washy yellows, and I thought this looked more dramatic.

The fact you can see the woodchip patterned paper on the ceiling which is not very flat shows the poor decorating skills of the builder who put it up there almost 30 years ago! I’m never going to take it down, it’s hiding a multitude of sins including bad plastering and cracks I think.

This was around 6am or maybe later, I just liked the stark, long shadow.

They slept

These two are getting much more tolerant of each other. They don’t follow each other around, I think the smaller of the two is a few years older, so he sleeps more. But they tend to eat together, and now they are sleeping in the same place. They looked so comfortable that I didn’t move them, I slept sitting upright on the settee until they both got off and went outside.

Tired

How are you feeling right now?

I tried to draw a cat yawning, which made me realise how tired I am at the moment.

If I were a cat I’d have yawned and fallen asleep by now. But I’m doing things, I’ve just eaten my evening meal, and I’m going to be doing things till well after midnight.

But cats have more sense. They come in when they are hungry or cold. They curl up on your lap, or in a little quiet place, a cat bed, or a chair, and then they get up and go out when they have rested. I read somewhere that cats sleep for up to 16 hours a day? I get by on barely 5 usually. Sometimes I’ll catch up. But these last few weeks have tired me out. I realise sleeping on the settee doesn’t help, but I still can’t climb stairs. I wish I could trans(mogg)rify into a cat! I’d get all the rest I need.

On my chest

Just woke up and found my cat lying on my chest! I am sleeping on the sofa as I can’t get upstairs with my injured leg.

He’s a friendly cat, but usually he is happy to lie down next to me on the chair arm. But tonight? I guess I’m the warm spot on a cold night. Seconds before I grabbed my phone to take this shot he had his head down, fast asleep and snoring.

Unfortunately for him I had to shift him as I was literally pinned down by his weight. He is now curled up snoozing at the other end of the settee and I’m sitting up with a cup of tea.

Pond yatch?

This arrived today! It’s almost the length and width of our settee. My hubbys brother has sent it in the post. Why? It’s meant to be a pond yatch. But our pond is smaller than the box!

I don’t need more stuff in the house. I don’t know how much wrapping is inside the box, I just told my hubby I’ve now got something to put him in when he has passed away.

Hubby and brother used to make toy boats as children, they had a small lake near their childhood home where they built ships and then reinacted naval battles and set fire to the ships (I don’t have to say what I want to do with it do I?)

Oh well, another start to another weird day. Household peace may resume. But I’m not sure when! I just wish he’d open the box, but he seems happy just to look at it!

Cats on boxes

A comfy sofa, a place to curl up and sleep.. But my cat loves boxes. Open or closed. If it’s made of cardboard he will lie on it or sleep in it! Forget cat beds, I’ve got three or four, but apart from one very enclosed covered over one he would rather sleep on a box.

I’m expecting a bit of rivalry though, the space next to this box has a towel on it that my other boy cat has been sleeping on. When he comes in I will see what happens.

Elbows

An elbowish

After almost a month I managed to get upstairs and go to bed last night. I knew it would be difficult sleeping after a month on my own. I didn’t realise how pointy elbows are, or how legs have sharp knees! So I wrote this little poem… !

Sleep, I need it

But elbows get in the way

Digging in my ribs

And back

Turning night into day.

What I mean is

I just have to say

That when you’ve

Spent a month alone

Sharing a bed again

Is full of elbows

And knees….

Sharp and pointy

Keeping me awake

Till dawn.

I

Sleep, I need it!

I had a shocking night last night. The pain in my leg means it’s hard to get comfortable. I can’t lie flat and if I lie on my side I have to put my legs on a footstool with pillows on it. I sometimes can’t get the levels right, so either my legs are too low and the edge of the settee digs in my thighs. The other way means my legs are too high and my knees feel twisted. I really, really, just want to get upstairs to bed. My shocked cat 🙀 plant holder shows what I think!
