I decided to free up a bit of space on my phone yesterday as I was on over 90% full. I really need to get more memory on my phone as I have over 3,000 images. The trouble is when I optimise and delete photos it resets the date on them so sometimes they all reorder themselves and jump around in my gallery until they settle down. Then I end up with a lot of duplicated photos and I have to go in and delete the duplications, and I also try and edit the others and try and delete more of the ones I don’t like. I hope you don’t have these problems!
The featured image is a painting of frost on canvas where I edited it in a filter to change the colours. It just popped up in my photo gallery.
About a year ago, the Leopard Hotel in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire. was destroyed in a fire. I was distraught because I had painted several murals in the Arnold Bennett suite at the back of the hotel. I had also been an extra in a horror film called Humanus which was partly filmed there. I would love it to be restored. It was old and quirky, and episodes of ‘most haunted’ were recorded around the building. But now? It’s a shell of its former glory.
The Leopard had fallen on hard times when it was taken over by Neil Cox and Neil Crisp in the early 2000’s. They started to pull the business round and bought out the essential quirkiness of the building, organising ghost tours and revising ad improving the good and drink. It was soon a venue people loved to go in. During that time they wanted some murals painting in the back room. I spent a couple of years between 2006 and 2007 painting ten or eleven of them. Why can’t I remember?
I loved doing it, and the figures in the paintings were often based on the locals, I even gave a talk to the local history group about what I had painted and the sources I used to decide on the subjects.
Now? I will definitely visit if its rebuilt. But I don’t think I could physically paint those murals again. And as I was only paid £75 per picture, for two years of work, it was never going to make me a profit, but I did it for the love of Art and the Leopard.
Sketch of the exhibition yesterday. The artworks were exhibited on large white boards. The are peg boards with rows of horizontal and vertical holes. To hang a painting you push two metal hooks into lots of two holes to make a place to hang your pictures up with string. It’s hard to describe but it worked. There were about eight or nine artists exhibiting. I did this in a five minute break between groups of people coming in.
Today I put childrens book together in a site called Blurb. I had saved all my files as .tif files and it needed them as .Jpegs so I spent HOURS swapping them. A lot of the jpeg files were not able to open. It meant that I had to change some of the pictures for different ones. I’ve ordered a one off copy for my course. The only problem is that it might arrive late so I’m going to have to take the photos to a printer and mock up the book as well.
The remaining ones mix up. January’s in July’s, March’s in May’s. I find it hard to find pictures I want to use for college or for my blog. Hence this odd little photo, it came from a while ago and yet it is in recent images? I don’t know how to get them back in order. I think the old ones are filling in the spaces of the photos I have deleted.
So I have to put up with it. It does mean that I occasionally rediscover an image that I really like, and as I intend to keep on sharing images as I blog you will see what I find!
Today we were playing with lighting effects, either with the light from a lamp, a phone or the screen light. I decided to try and use watercolour (mainly blue and brown) and a couple of extra colours depending on the backgrounds. The paint set doesn’t have a black, which makes it interesting trying to get dark enough colours…
Too many photos on my phone. My phone memory is at 85% and my SD card is almost full… My WordPress account is around 92% full, mostly I think because I try and post my own artwork here and not to use images off the net.
I need to seriously declutter. I think I will save things to the cloud. But sorting out what to keep? I’m just having a deleting frenzy!
So if you come across a post with words but no picture, I’m sorry but I’ve probably deleted it (getting rid of duplicates or blurry, poor quality images). So now you know
Quick sketches with ink, soft pastels and ink splatter… I liked the poses people did. Its good that people enjoy sitting as well as drawing. On one I tried using ink splatter, I don’t know why? Experiment!
Having fun sketching my cohort on the college course I’m doing. Learning to draw even faster. Most of these are five minute sketches using a graphite stick. I had fun!
My WordPress is getting too full of images again. I try and put a new photo or art on each page, but when my media is around 86% full it won’t allow me to upload new images. So unfortunately I’m going to have to delete pictures to make more room. I will delete them from the older pages. It will probably mean that the page and writing will still be there, but the image might be missing. Sorry if this is a problem. I might try and increase my package with WordPress but that will cost me money. I don’t want to clutter my blog up with ads either. We will see what happens.
