Seeing more JWST pictures

What are you most excited about for the future?

I love images of space, they excite my artistic imagination. I’ve just been watching The Sky at Night, a BBC TV programme about space and astronomy. They had a special programme about the James Webb space telescope as it is the second anniversary of it sending back the first images it took.

JWST has superceeded the Hubble telescope as the foremost in imaging distant stars, nebulae and galaxies. It can see back in time almost to the big bang. And that was 13 billion years ago. It has been able to image data that indicates exo planets, and on a few occasions has actually been able to work out the chemical constituents of their atmospheres through spectroscopy. It has also given us different ways to image our closest neighbours, the planets of the solar system, for example using infra-red filters.

I am really looking forward to seeing new images from JWST, and maybe even trying to paint some of them. X

Splodgy skies

More boring splodgy night skies. The white line is the moon, just shows how bad my camera shake is! 60 second exposures, went from greenish to slight pink to blue. So maybe there will be better views outside the city?

I’m afraid I’m getting a bit obsessed with the Aurora Borealis. But since we are still in a stream of particles from the sun I might as well try and take pictures when I can. The next solar maximum is in 22 years and I might not be around to see that. Sorry these pictures don’t show amazing structures but I’m pleased just to get the colours here in the middle of a city, x

Playing with filters

I used coloured overlays and an added image of the previous collaged photo on top of this. I like the complexity and that the Christmas tree looks a bit like an insects head.

When I get fed up I like to play with images, creating something new, learning, and keeping myself occupied.

I used the incollage app and photodirector to create this.

Symmetrical tree with lights and stained glass windows. Still loving playing with photos and art.

In other news I’m lucky to have so many friends. Things are happening and I’m like a boulder in a raging river, being bashed all over the place, but people keep throwing me lifelines and I feel like things should (not saying will) be alright. Meanwhile I have to keep occupied.

VW van and paintings

My friend just sent these photos, they are his model VW van next to a couple of my paintings. They made me laugh! I haven’t seen them for a few years so it came as a nice surprise to receive his message. I’m chuffed aswell that the scale works. I want to go somewhere for a trip now.

Leaf collage

When you make a collage of a photo you never know what you are going to get. This one seems to have animal faces at the centre, but it’s only fallen leaves on pavement. The effect of seeing things that are made up like this, or animals in clouds, faces in buildings, is called Pareidolia.

Take an image, duplicate it, turn it until you are happy with it’s position. I used incollage app to create these. The original images can be a drawing, an image that has been digitally manipulated or just a photo of an object. Just experimenting and having fun.

Deleting photos

My plan on Jetpack /WordPress only gives me a smallish memory for photos and I keep bumping it up to 100%. I want this blog to have either my art and images but sometimes I also use the free photo library on here.

Unfortunately I cannot add new images unless I delete some ols photos, so I’m trying to remove my most boring pictures. That’s not too bad, but the more new ones I add the more slightly better photos I have to delete. It also means I have to optimise decent photos to take up less space.

So if you come across a post without a picture it will probably mean I have deleted the picture to free up space (sorry).

Exercise in perspective. Digitally manipulated photo of a door and window. It’s created an apparent corner where non exists. I tried rotating the image four times until I was satisfied with this picture. I used the incollage app to do it, I was previously using the old Instagram layout app.

I’m deleting photos

If you find one of my posts without an image, it’s because I’m running out of memory on my Jetpack account again. If I had enough money I would increase my package. What I’m doing is to take the most boring photos away. I hope you don’t mind, but I thought if I explained people would understand what I was doing. The other thing to do would be to reduce the photo sizes to thumbnails, but that just makes the pictures to small to see properly.
