So much for a restful day…

Next door is banging and drilling again! So much for a quiet day. I live in a terraced house and there is no soundproofing between us, so the noise can be distracting.

This has been going on for probably a year. I thought the drill was going to come through my wall a few minutes ago. He must have been drilling a deep hole. I presume he’s fitting the house out now?

Last week I found half a window frame in my yard. I was tempted to try and throw it back but I don’t have the strength and I don’t want to break anything! And there goes the drilling again. I will have to go out.

SWEARWORDS!

Christmas eve

I wish I could do something about my new neighbour but I don’t want to speak to him. He’s there now, I think he does a bit of hammering to let me know he’s in. I thought my house was on fire when I came home from visiting a friend, but no he was just burning stuff in the back yard again. The smoke was drifting over the top of my kitchen. Anyway his front door just slammed and he drove off. Happy Christmas eve! I’m going to finish my banana butty and cake bar tea.

Helpfulness

What makes a good neighbor?

Sometimes you need a neighbour to help. Or they need your help. As we grow older you can become more isolated. If you don’t have anyone you might need that support. What happens if you struggle with something? I once had to ask someone to take my handbrake off because I’d put it on too tight and I couldn’t release it. Yesterday I had to park up the hill as all the spaces outside my house were taken. Later when I saw the cars go I walked slowly up the hill to move my car (I had parked outside a neighbour’s house).

I don’t really know him but I was worried that someone was going to park outside my house before I moved the car. This neighbour kindly offered to stand outside my house until I moved it!

Being on good terms with neighbours helps everyone. X

New neighbour

He’s moving in, cut back his garden, and I feel encroached on. For the last few days he’s been burning the plants he cut down. I explained I want to put the washing on the line so he said he would stop, so I put a load of washing on a fast wash. Span it a couple of times. Meanwhile the smoke abated. I decided to do some washing up and to empty the bins. When I looked again? The smoke had started up again.

He appears to be OK, but I feel a bit bullied. Next door was empty for a year, which was peaceful. But now he’s pestering me to get my garden cut back. I’ll get it tidied, but it’s going to cost thousands to cut down and I don’t want to, it’s my nature haven. With him on one side and the shop on the other hacking at my hedge I feel like I’m being assaulted from both sides. I feel less safe than when things were emptied. Now he’s taking my brown bin to put garden rubbish in. I’m letting him use it once but I have explained it’s my bin and I pay to have it emptied.

Hedge gone!

I came home from a nice afternoon singing with a choir to find the hedge behind my neighbours back garden has gone. It’s because one of the houses have been sold and they need access. It’s a shame because the house sparrows used to nest in there. I feel like I’m under threat in all directions! The hedge on the other side of the house has been cut right back which was when we were burgled. It’s all men chopping the plants down. Tidy and lifeless. They will put some gravel down! Meanwhile my garden will survive somehow!

Getting back to normal?

Day 32, urban sketchers challenge.

Medium, spectrum noir colouring pencils with a metallic sheen.

This morning when I got up I saw another con trail in the sky, this time horizontal north/south. Then as I started to draw I saw a plane and another con trail cut across the sky, west to east. I could see the tiny plane. I knew I would not be able to do it justice so I left it out.

The next door neighbours back yard beyond the trellis fence is a bit boring. I’m waiting for hanging baskets to hang off the fence and brighten things up.

Back to normal? I don’t think so…..

I want to recharge my batteries…

Watching too much TV about covid 19, or too much social media. Even when the TV is off I can hear my neighbours TV through the wall. I think he is very deaf. Currently there is sad music, piano, with a heavy beat. With a loud voice over that is too muffled to understand. But in that punchy way that journalists speak.

I stayed up far too late last night, till about four thirty, then got up just after nine in the morning. I’ve tried to stay awake all day but dozed off a few times. To keep occupied I’m gradually getting rid of things and clearing out old papers.

The worst thing is the tension in my neck and shoulders and I think I’m grinding my teeth in my sleep. I go to bed with a stiff neck and it takes ages to get comfortable.

I lost my train of thought, the sound from next door got louder…

I know how to do relaxation, but usually forget. I’m also hunched over my phone or staring at the TV, so that doesn’t help. I could go out and exercise, but I’m worried about doing that as I live in a city and there are a lot of people walking about.

Self isolation is not too bad, I am with my hubby, although our sleep patterns are definitely out.

I just remembered, our cats wouldn’t go to the vets to be inoculated, so they have been indoors for Three YEARS, so a couple of MONTHS more won’t harm me. At least I have access to a garden.

As they say ‘stay safe’ X

Builders?

DSC_2172

As I reported a couple of days ago, my neighbour had had a new gas boiler installed and they drilled through into our living room knocking off some plaster.

The saga continues. This photo is of the boiler exhaust pipe, which the builder/plumber said was going to be fixed in place by his mate today. He’s used CARDBOARD to fill in the gap. The hole is right next door to us and if water gets in I don’t know what damage it will do! I’ve heard of cowboy builders, but not cardboard ones!

My neighbour is elderly and may not get the service he paid for. I don’t want to complain to him. But it the builders don’t come back I might contact trading standards or even pay for the work to be done myself.
