Ouch

It took me 24 minutes to draw this and you won’t know what it represents unless I tell you.

Four days ago I was cutting back blackberry stems that grow through our fence from next doors garden. We pick the fruit but the stems have a tenancy to grow sharp thorns which I sometimes get caught on when I’m tending my plants.

Anyway I didn’t bother with gloves because a) I couldn’t find any, b) it was only a small task.

Ouch! I got thorns in my fingers. I pulled them out quickly, but I could feel a sharp pain in my right index finger. But I could not see the thorn.

Hoping it would work its way out I ignored it. But the next day I still felt a sharp pain.

I prodded it but no sign of the thorn and nothing came out. Finally this morning my index finger felt really sore. What to do. No choice. I got a needle and found the thorn. It was tiny about a millimeter long, but it had gone straight down into my finger instead of along parallel to the skin surface. It is amazing how painful a thorn can be.

Anyway after about half an hour of gently sticking the needle in my finger (ouch) I managed to work it free. Got some salt water and washing up liquid to cleanse the area. Hopefully that’s it. But Ouch! Not a nice way to start your morning!

A Facebook page…

I’ve come across a page recently on Facebook called ” terrible art in charity shops”. I’ve been mesmerised by it. I have seen some truly odd images, and some that are not too bad. I’m astounded at what people put on the page. I guess some of the pictures are sold so people can reuse the frames.

After half an hour of scrolling down I had to stop. I think the page is not meant to be unkind, more a gentle humour and hopefully witty remarks.

As someone who had a work put into a charity shop, but then had it bought by someone who really liked it, I guess I can see both sides of the discussion.

Why do I write and what am I writing?

IMG_20190513_022651

It struck me that my writing is as mixed up as my painting and art. I’m interested in poetry and short stories, documenting life and writing about esoteric stuff like why the earth isn’t flat.

I sometimes ramble on around similar subjects, then get bored and throw something else into the mix – like writing about bread making, or my cats and garden.

I have a lot of thoughts flowing round in my head. I didn’t ask for them to be there.  I’m irritated when Sci-fi shows have sound in the vacuum of space, or someone tells a lie about something that is clearly not true.

I was talking to my hubby about this earlier. I do not want to be different, I was going to write “normal” but perhaps I am. Maybe writers are those people that stick to a specific narrative or genre? Or maybe not. I know I don’t do much research about things, most of my writing is imagined or recollected from books and TV programmes.

I started out thinking it would be purely an art blog, a way of selling my paintings, but it’s morphed. I write mors here than anywhere else and I hope it doesn’t get snatched away. I never check how much content I’m creating. It just flows….. And I was once asked why I don’t have adverts… I don’t like them! I keep seeing photos of lemons, or some green gunk that clears up skin problems…. No, sorry, I’m not happy to sell it….

Wash

My cat likes sitting in the bathroom to have a wash. I don’t quite know why. It’s probably quieter than the rest of the house and he’s not pestered by his sister except when she runs in and pounces on him! Yesterday she was sitting on the bath and he walked in she batted his head as if to say get lost. Sometimes they sit at either end of the side of the bath like bookends. I walk in and they are sitting there calmly just chilling. I think it’s most attractive when the afternoon sun slants in and warms the room.

You’ve got a spider in your ear….

_20190421_190008you’ve got a spider in your ear,

with a heart on its back.

It’s smiling gently

As it builds its web.

It stops thoughts leaking out

when you lie on your side.

Stops ear wax escaping

And keeps bed bugs out.

It plays on your eardrum

Tapping timpani

When you are asleep!

So don’t be afraid if you see a spider in my ear.

It’s just looking after it

and keeping it clean.

Jelly fish inspired by blogger little fears

Jellyfish IMG_20190415_113957_424

Inspired by a post by little fears.

Ugh, jelly flavoured fish….. So strange Fran thought. She’d seen a sign jellyfish for sale, and was mentally trying to work out what it meant. What flavour would they be? Lemon, ginger, cherry?

She walked across the road from the tropical fish shop. There was another store there. Jelly babies were on display by the counter. Why all this jelly? What was happening…..who turned babies into jelly anyway?

Two doors down from the sweet shop was a grocery store. She walked round it only to find sugar free jelly, jelly rolls and jellied eels.

It’s a wobbly wobbly world she thought.
