Well a duck and drake actually. Bog standard Mallard ducks, but I do think they look smart. The male (drake) has the green head and ring round his neck. The female duck has neat brown feathers bounded by white edges. These were photographed on a cold day about a month ago.
It’s soon going to be time for little ducklings to emerge from their eggs. In a few weeks time I might be taking pictures Of some of them.
Meanwhile I hope you enjoy this image of nature.

It was a quiet autumn day and nothing much was happening. She had been out shopping and was starting to put stuff away in the fridge. Suddenly there was a huge gust of wind which rattled all the windows and blew lots of leaves along the path. It started to rain and the sky grew grey and then black. The kitchen was so dark that she had to put the light on. She thought she saw a figure outside, but when she tried to look through the window the glare from the electric light reflected back and made it impossible to see out.
She continued to put things away. Then entered the living room. She heard a knock coming from the front door, “hang on” she called, fumbling to find the light switch, ” I will be there in a sec.”
She turned the key in the door and gasped as she opened it. A very short person dressed all in black and wearing a plastic skull mask stood by her front door….
“Trick or treat!” screamed the child loudly over the sound of the gale.

Several years ago I offered to do a painting for whoever made the highest bid for a charity auction. I don’t remember what the bid was but I did this portrait of the bidders dogs. It’s in watercolours on watercolour paper and framed. The paper was a3 but the mount is wide and cut in more of a letterbox shape because of the composition.
I loved painting them, they have such cheeky faces. I also loved painting the patterned cloth they were lying on. I think it’s a throw.

Being owlish I look carefully at things,
I see them from my flying wings.
I hoot with laughter when I hear a joke.
I spy mice and voles at a stroke,
Will my owlish brain outwit you?
Never know what hit you?
I swoop down so soft and quiet
To consume my rodent diet….
My talons and beak are sharp
Winging down over hill and park.
A barn to rest in is all I ask.
A nest to build is my task.
My eggs and chicks they grow fast
Gobble up food, a tasty repast.
Then once they are grown the fledge
And out to the world they emerge.
So this old owl will towoo some more.

Bang, oh noise, white and brown things come through hole in wood thing in hole in big square white thing, white thing also has hole in it that has clear stuff in it so I can look out and thing hanging down that makes ringing noise when I play with it.
This odd poem is me trying to describe from my cats perspective. I don’t imagine they have nouns for things, so I haven’t said windows, door, or envelopes but just tried to explain them. I hope this makes sense..
When I have had a long day I enjoy doing something creative. These were done with a couple of apps, sketcher free and picsart. I don’t know why I like swirls and spirals so much.
Anyway here are three iterations. The first was the most complex to create, the second and third led to the first. I started with bright colours and then reduced them by using the curves option, changing each colour to a more muted one and eventually grey.
I think I will just finish here. Today was very busy.

A light from the sky settled gently on to the field at the back of the housing estate. The sound was muted. No one would have heard it if they had been more than 50 metres away.
But on that night Sam had been looking up at the sky from a corner of the field on the local footpath. She had been struck by the beauty of the Milky Way and the clarity of the night on this chilly evening. She had been about to leave when she saw the light from the corner of her eye. A meteor? Too slow. A plane? The flashing lights were not there, just one spotlight. A helicopter? No sound …. She stood still as it landed. The classic ufo shape that she had seen on many old black and white films.
She was surprised at how calm she felt. She didn’t know whether to move toward the object or run away. Finally she noticed a yellow ramp with steps lowering down to the ground.
Why not be the first? Why not make contact? She walked slowly up the slope of the field and came to the base of the steps……
