If you can’t see what it is, I drew bacon about to be grilled, so I could make bacon and cheese oatcakes.

Today’s USK S-O-T challenge was to draw ‘cooking’. Various pots and pans and foodstuffs have been drawn. It’s keeping me occupied and mentally active.

USK stands for Urban Sketchers, its a world wide movement of people who draw their environment. The rules are, draw from life, not a photo, include background, not just the subject on its own. There are others but I can’t remember them all…. Anyway, I wonder what tomorrows challenge will be. X

Today’s urban sketchers Stoke-on-Trent challenge was to draw the book you are reading. This is one my husband gave me it to read. Wireless for beginners by Thomas Roddam. It’s strange but I like trying to understand technical books. I read just about anything, although these days I skim read and you need to take your time over things like this. Obviously I’m never going to make vaccum tubes…

I’m enjoying the challenge. Some of it’s difficult, you think ‘what can I do?’ , but you can put your own spin on it.

So is this by you?

Yes it’s an old drawing.

When did you draw it?

I don’t really remember, I think it’s over twenty five years oldy, but as I didn’t sign or date it I can’t be sure.

Where did it come from?

I was doing some spring cleaning and chucking out old letters and envelopes. I found it in a dusty file.

Why did you draw it?

I think it was when we used to go to kite festivals, which is why I think it’s from the 1990’s although it might be older. I remember being interested in the images on kites, like Chinese or Japanese art. The pose is vaguely based on a tiger I think.

Do you like it?

Mostly, not sure about the ball of wool. But I like the way the cat is twisting in mid air.

So what have you learned?

I might vary the thickness of the lines, I was doing it to add weight and shadow to the drawing. It’s an ink drawing on cartridge paper.

So why did you interview yourself?

I wanted to make my blog a bit more interesting.

The world is full of bored people. One of the things to do that was posted on Facebook is to close your eyes and choose a book at random. Find page 109 go to the third paragraph and post the first sentence you come to. Also include the author and book title.

First, apologies to Google for using this image. If I’m in trouble I will delete it.

There was a question of Facebook which had an image of a mountainous island and a palm tree. Below it, it said ST Lucia W. I.

I had to think, I jokingly said Women’s Institute. I had an inkling of what I thought WI meant, but didn’t want to say….

Someone said West Indies, which makes perfect sense. But my guess was Windward Isles. So I Googled it…

I don’t know why I knew it. But I think it was because I collected stamps when I was a child. It’s amazing what memories you can retain over decades. NoytyaCCCCP, Magyar Posta, are a couple of names if places I also remember (may not be the correct spelling).

I wanted to do Geography when I was at school. I was persuaded to do a language instead which I failed abysmally. Maybe I should have done it.

I’ve joined a group on Facebook where the idea is to post cheerful things, and not mention the virus.

One of today’s challenges was to post a ‘kettle’ view. I think I took it too literally, this is a view of my kettle.

I posted it, then saw beautiful pictures of kitchens, or views out of the windows of neat and tidy houses.

On a seperate page the urban sketchers challenge was to draw ‘working from home’ as I’m semi retired I’m not really doing that. Craft fairs and exhibitions are off for the time being, and I genuinely have not felt that creative this week. But I wanted to do the challenge, so I drew this.

Selfie’ portrait, including phone and the canvas of a kingfisher it’s propped up on. Old brushes and easle. Background on the phone is a painting I did in about 1982,of my imagined self, so a selfie of a self portrait? Happy to join the challenge. Why is the photo a mirror image to what was on the screen I was drawing?

Oh my double chins! How difficult it is to draw while trying to look over your glasses because I can’t see clearly. I need varifocals, but after spending loads on a pair a few years ago I hated them so much I never wore them again!

Sketching with urban sketchers means including the background and having the image in context. Why not do your own selfie?

Colour that cat…!

Two year old digital sketch. I’m just posting it for fun. All I’ve done for the last couple of days is moan about the virus or WordPress. Enough!

My love is for colour and pattern. Cats are also in the mix. I’m not saying this is a good drawing. It’s rough and ready, not anatomically correct, but it’s a bit of fun.

I’m going to try and find more apps to draw on. I’ve got obsessed by a colouring by numbers website and I’ve coloured over 200 images in just a few days. I think I’m sticking my head in the sand.

Why do people need toilet rolls?

Apart from the obvious, (obviously). I went to the shop today and it was almost stripped bare of produce, so I got vaguely similar things to what I would normally get. But why are people obsessed with toilet rolls you can’t eat them can you?

Toilet roll sausages,

Sandwiches with toilet paper squares.

Duck au loo roll?

I’m surprised my hubby found some this morning, but that’s because he went to a corner shop and not the supermarket.

Now what can I make out of a large jar of gherkins and some lime marmalade?

Poddling

I once saw a cartoon of a cat on a poster, paws kneading someone’s arm. The picture had a red circle with a diagonal red line across it. Below it, it said something like poddle free Cheshire.

Poddling, a lovely, possibly made up, word to describe when a cat sits on you, claws slightly out, kneading ‘poddling’ your leg. If you have loving cats like mine you end up with hundreds of tiny puncture wounds in your thigh. I try and wear trousers made of thick, dense material to protect myself. Sometimes this behaviour goes on for three or four minutes while my cat gently purrs to herself. It only stops when my hubby walks back in the room, then the cat leaps off and goes away ( he makes her nervous as he is quite loud!)
