Digital Marilyn

A digital drawing I did of Marilyn Munroe a few years ago. It was very hard to get her features right. I’m not sure what film the image was taken from but it might have been ‘some like it hot’ which also starred Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.

The story is that they are escaping gangsters and escape by dressing as women and joining a woman’s Jazz band. Marilyn is the singer of the band. If you ever want to cheer yourself up I would recommend the film.

Doodle

Where do doodles come from, why are they satisfying if you get the pattern right. Simple black lines twisted and convoluted. If I had drawn just a straight line how far would it stretch? Can you see bears or frogs in this? Or Elizabethan ruffs perhaps? Would you draw anything like this or would it be angular or something different? Playing with lines is fun and engrossing. Why not try taking a line for a walk as it’s sometimes called?

Gout?

My friend sent me this information about gout (I’ve not been diagnosed yet). I have a face to face appointment tomorrow. I hope it will sort out what’s causing me pain in my joints. So fingers crossed (ouch!)

When you are dependent on using your hands to be creative its a real pain (pun intended) to have to stop. I will be really grateful if this can be sorted out. I’m hoping for a positive outcome on this. So it’s a thumbs up (lol) from me. X

Could you knit this?

More playing with pattern. I used a mosaic tool on this so it looks a bit like tapestry. I could imagine it stitched as a cross stitch pattern but it’s very complicated. I see butterflies and moths in it. Maybe even bats and little vampires? It’s fun making up patterns, playing with colours, adding shapes and variations. I changed the hues on this a few times before deciding on this blue, yellow and purple pattern.

Desk tidy

Not very exciting but today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was office. I don’t have an office so I drew a desk tidy that I have ordered to keep all my black ink pens together with other bits and pieces.

The desk tidy is actually dark brown and the background was white. The only interesting thing we’re slightly darker images of the desk tidy tubes that were reflecting in each other. I would have liked to have added some lighter tones but the white watercolour pencil I tried using did not show up well enough.

Draw a shape…

I’m doing a series of drawings over a week based on prompts. The problem is the prompts are included in short videos and for some reason my phone is playing the audio at 3 or 4 times normal speed!

Anyway today’s prompt was to choose one verb from a long list of them. Then draw a pattern over and over again to represent that verb. I chose ‘to support’. With the problem I’ve been having with my drawing hand, I decided to draw hands over and over again. In a ‘supporting’ bridge sort of position. Then I decided it needed a thing to support. I thought of all my friends and how they support me. I decided to add tears, but not to wipe the tears away with a hand, I thought that would be too twee.

Other handed

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was using your other hand to draw. As I have injured my right hand I was happy to try and draw with my left hand

This is one of our cats. Drawn left handed. I could manage the outlinesbut the shading is a bit rough and ready. I used a dark blue ink brush to go over the black shading. I have some nice metallic pens which are useful to create related colours

Sailing

I wanted to use the ‘knitting’ pattern that I had drawn as a background for another image. Flip it over, mirror it and crop it, draw over it and add a boat and its reflection. I think it actually works quite well. The sea looks calm as a mill pond despite the wind catching in the boats sails. I added white lines to dilineate the surf as it flows onto the beach.

Knitted

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was knitted. So difficult to draw left handed, but my right hand is still swollen and sore. I tried drawing a knitted pattern. The spiky things at the top are meant to be knitting needles. Not much more I can say except it was hard to draw a continuous line left handed and the writing is with my left hand too.
