Jack Frost?

When I’m not painting or sketching, I’m doodling.

Meet Jack Frost, or the Thorn Fairy depending on the time of year? I don’t know where the idea came from. But nights are getting a bit longer and colder and today seemed really cold in our house. It was so chilly I put a jumper on! Then this evening I looked up at our bedroom window. The top pane was wide open, no wonder it was cold! Hubby admitted it had been open since this morning. We agreed heating the outside atmosphere with our central heating system is not a good idea!

So now Jack Frost is a Thorn Fairy. A useful creature to keep people out of our garden, perhaps!

Motion

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Motion. This is my motion drawing, I visited Etruria Industrial Museum at the weekend and saw the Princess steam engine running. This is based on a photo but not copied from it. I have tried to remember how it was set up, I’ve also tried to use lines to indicate blurred motion.

Agricultural

For todays prompt for #bandofsketchers ‘agricultural’ I have drawn a mediaeval style of peasant sowing seed. I don’t think I could attempt a combine harvester or a tractor at the moment.

I have got to delete some of my images again I’m afraid. I hit 100% of my storage at WordPress so if you find any posts without pictures you will know why!

Long poppy painting idea

You can’t see this very well but I’ve pencilled in some poppies on this long thin canvas.

It’s going to be a poppy painting, with poppies scrolling down a long thin canvas. I want to evoke art nouveau, those tiles that were placed on either side of fireplaces. I will have a look at the style of the kind of artwork. When I’ve filled in some of the colours I will show another version. My idea is to make something subtle and beautiful.

I saw a horse

I saw a horse in my digital drawing from earlier. It’s funny but I didn’t see it until I looked at a smaller version of the doodle. It’s a strange picture but I might turn it into a painting. I like the way the swirls look like a huge mane. I think I will get my paints out soon! Digital doodling over a photo of a felt pen sketch.

Churn

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Rustic. What to draw for this? I looked up milk churn and tractor tyre on the Internet. I have drawn a churn based on one of the images, but not a direct copy and a part of a tractor wheel from another picture. The vegetation is imagined. Felt pen drawing.

Bright pattern

Changing ‘curves’ in digital photo editing apps can really change colours and make them ‘pop’. Initially you see a square with a diagonal line on it and also a series of squiggly lines underneath that indicate how much of the spectrum is in what part of the box. If you click on the diagonal line you can change the shape of it. Raising the line by dragging it makes it your image lighter (you can watch the image change as you drag on the line). Pulling the line down darkens the image. But altering the line into a flowing curve also changes the colours without altering the underlying pattern or shapes. You can also change colours in other tools. Have a go. See what happens.
