Glass

Glass ball with bubbles of air in it. I’m a bit of a collector of glass paperweights. I started collecting about thirty years ago when I got two with gold and silver leaf embedded in them. My latest one was a few weeks ago when I bought a apple shaped one with glass spirals. Given my current situation I don’t think I will be buying any more.

Shower curtain rings

I don’t know what I was thinking, but when I got a new shower curtain it came with it’s own rings, what to do with the old ones? I hung them up on a branch of the fern that’s growing in the bathroom. I guess I put them there because they looked interesting and I don’t like throwing things away.

Train models

Not a good photo, but my hubby is lending some train models to the Etruria Industrial museum for the weekend. We may donate them as they have a display case they can be shown in. We have too many bits of collections and sometimes we have to declutter. It feels strange letting objects go. But like paintings, you can’t keep all of them.

Seed heads

I’ve collected some seeds from seed heads, including poppies and nasturtiums and marigolds. I need to store them in a cool dry place and I think they will be OK in a kitchen drawer. I need to remember that are there, if not they will be wasted, also when to plant them, I guess I will Google that, or look on the back of seed packets when we go to a garden center.

Blue bins

Seeing double.. Our bins have doubled overnight, which is great if you don’t mind having to fight your way past them or walking on the road. We should recycle but I try not to buy stuff in plastic tubs or bottles. In return they are cutting our collection to fortnightly. I can imagine our grey bin overflowing by then. We really did not need extra plastic on the street. It’s just cost cutting again.

Yellow glass bowl

A funny little painting of a yellow glass bowl with blue feet shaped like ammonites or snail shells. I loved the bowl and was really upset when it got broken. I created this picture so I would have a memory of it. Some people collect things, others hate clutter. I’m on the collecting side. Mostly because it helps when creating art. If I want to paint a little rabbit skull I have one I found on a walk, or I have ammonites found on the beach. Glass ware and ceramics. I don’t think anything is worth much money, but I do like collecting objects (and dust!)

Wizard glass

A wizard presides over some of my collection of glass paperweights. I made sure the sun doesn’t shine in too brightly on this particular windowsill. There are no curtains so the glass orbs cannot set fire to anything – they could act as magnifying lenses. I think the first ones I got were a present about thirty years ago, but I then started collecting them. They are colourful and tactile. Creativity comes in many guises.
