Squabble over a basket.

DSC_2381

My cats do like play fighting, at the moment they are either squabbling over a basket or trying to be top cat on top of the settee. Seeing them running backwards and forwards is great, or hiding under the coats by the back door and pouncing from underneath them as the other one runs past. It can be very funny. But it is only play fighting. They make little purring noises as they chase. Its like they are talking to each other. Leaping over each other. Flying, skipping, jumping. Fun.

Green view

Cold, wet and windy, but still a bit green where the ivy is growing up trees in the garden. Really it needs cutting back. I don’t want it strangling them. There are bird feeders out there, but there seem to be less birds than normal. Perhaps they have enough food, we haven’t seen evidence of them being predated by cats thankfully. I want to get out there and cut back the buddliea bushes. They need pruning.

The pond is OK, it’s hidden below the cherry tree. It has only frozen a couple of times and only thinly this autumn / winter. We hope to have tadpoles in the spring.

Purring cats

Purring puss

He loves his new basket

Curled up warm and snug!

But jealousy arrives with his sister

Who loves it too.

Squabbles ensue, much chasing,

up and down stairs,

behind the curtains…

Scooting backwards and forwards,

In and out the basket,

one after the other.

Till finally,

they both ignore it,

staying in seperate places.

Eyeing up the basket,

at an impasse….

Neither willing to trespass.

Wish I’d bought two.

It’s not Bonfire night!

And yet, fireworks are going off outside. I feel so sorry for the stray cat living outside in our shed. I hope he’s tucked up out of the cold in the cat box we got him. We tried letting him into the house today because it’s so cold, but our cats objected strongly. They started yowling at him. And as they won’t let me take them to the vets to be inoculated I dare not let him stay inside.

It’s not good to have half an hour of loud fireworks. It’s even scaring the cats inside.

And yet in one country at least they have introduced silent fireworks. Surely we should do the same.

New ideas for paintings

They might not look like much yet, but I’ve just blocked in three small painting that I sketched out over the weekend. The middle one is of a cat curled up on an armchair. The chair will be covered in a holly pattern.the cat on the window ledge will have a blue and white vase next to it, and the pottery is an imagined view in the snow,

I’ve got a busy week so I might not be able to get online much. Also I’ve got toothache!

These are her boys

These two boys were my female cats kittens, they were rehomed together and now they are about two and a half years old. I occasionally see photos of them, I do miss them. They are like larger versions of their mother. Both boys are really handsome. I wish I’d been able to keep them, and their two sisters that went to another home.

Boris the 🕸 Spider

sketch-1569633066742

For as long as I can remember, if we see a big, hairy, spider in the house, we call it Boris. Nothing to do with politics, its kind of a tradition. I don’t see him very often, but as the nights cool down he tends to scurry across the floor (might be a she?). I think there is a mating season for spiders. The only problem is the cats, they are quite expert at catching spiders (mainly in the bathroom) if Boris was to be spied by one of the cats, we’ll I wouldn’t give him much of a chance of escape. There is something about the look on the cats face, concentration, anticipation, that does not bode well for any spiders in the vicinity.
