Side window view of neighbourhood

You know when you just want to do something different? My view out the side window. Including pink orchids. Started out with white chalk on a black background and nail varnishes I don’t wear anymore. Then felt pens, metallic marker pens and more nail varnish including a clear coat…. Messy but fun! Next one might be painted…. Neighbourhood (1). Bit whiffy, I can smell the nail varnish from the other side of the room. As long as it doesn’t crack it should be OK. I think it’s absorbed into the paper. I shall use it on a few more abstract pictures, I used to wear mad colours to work but my nails went manky!

Today’s sketching prompt ‘ceramic’

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt is ceramic. This is my brown ‘Bessie’ or ‘Betty’ tea pot and a couple of mugs of tea. One of which has the Penkhull Flag on it.

The shadow at the bottom was from my head as I stood and drew in the sunny kitchen. It was just going to be ink and pencil, then I thought why not add colour? It’s a sketch rather than a neat drawing. Hope you like.

Today’s sketch, transport…

Todays ssketch for our band of sketchers prompt was transport…

My old viking queen bike. Bought when I was twenty… I was still cycling a few years ago. Now I’m too nervous so it sits in the living room and gathers dust….Still a great bike, only a small bike frame, but it was chosen because it was just the right size for me. I wish there was somewhere flat I could practice round here…

Orange

Today’s prompt for band of sketchers was the colour orange. I gathered a group of things together and used permanent markers to draw it in. I tried to colour the areas without drawing it out first.

Orange is a peculiar colour, some people identify reds as orange, and orange as yellow. Everyone has different eyesight and abilities to differentiate colours. I imagine someone with colour-blindness would just see muddy browns?

Yesterday’s prompt, post.

This is the drawing I did today for yesterdays band-of-sketchers prompt, post.

Was thinking of drawing a pile of paperwork and envelopes but decided to draw today’s post. I put it back into the letterbox so I could make it look more interesting. I’m glad I got a gold pen to draw the door furnishings.

Tomorrow is October and there will be more prompts to draw.

X

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt, old.

My hubby, forty years together and we are both getting old. Various marker pens on cartridge paper. He didn’t keep still or I would have done a better job on it. I’ve bought a few more permanent marker pens. Some are OK, but some seriously smell of something like acetone? I used a silver pen to try and add grey to his hair and reflections/highlights on his face.

Why sketch?

I’m drawing at home with a little group called band of sketchers on Facebook. It’s an offshoot of urban sketchers and it means that I draw at home every couple of days. I avoid going out much these days as I want to avoid coming into contact with people.
One day I will feel better, but for now I’m hiding in my little shell and avoiding coughs and sneezes.

I have enjoyed keeping my drawing skills up. A lot of the sketches are done really fast, but that doesn’t make it any less fun. Our small group are challenging each other to learn new techniques and improving our observation skills.

Today’s sketch, layers

Quick sketch, layers for #bandofsketchers. Just a pile of washing on the settee with the cat in attendance. Not very exciting I’m afraid. I woukd have liked to have drawn the layers of a cake, or layers of rock in a cliff, or even layers of clothes that someone is wearing, or layers of cloud, but I didn’t have much choice as I haven’t been out today. It’s a bit garish, but I love pattern and colour, so it will do.

Today’s prompt

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt. It was meant to be a plate of food but I’d eaten it before I remembered! The depicts a Magnolia plant with butterflies on the plate made at Portmeirion pottery. I drew it using a black drawing pencil on cartridge paper in my little sketchbook. We had a salad and quiche. With whole grain mustard. Tasty.
