New paintings and regular art updates.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Space. It is a favourite subject. I love the Sky at Night Programme on the BBC. I’ve tried to paint the Whirlpool galaxy, using Arteza metallic watercolours and some black and white acrylic. A bit splodgy but the detail on the photo was overwhelming.
It’s been a few days since I had a good walk, I haven’t been well. Today its sunny and warm and I’m fed up of feeling trapped in the house. A short walk, a flat walk, a slow walk, but a walk.
A few thousand steps will help me and give me some relaxation….

Today I found someone at a place called Art Glass Lounge where they do glass workshops. I was really pleased because I had wanted to do some more glass pieces and my hubby wanted another go too.
We met a lovely glass artist who was very informative and helpful. Social distancing was used and at the end we bumped elbows. We had a go at grinding the glass to shape it, melting thin glass rods with either a candle or a blow torch to slump it or with the blow torch, fuse it together.
Very interesting and enjoyable.
You can make a collage with almost anything. If it can be glued you can use it. You can also colour match things like felt pens with coloured paper to extend the image. I also add black pen to mimic the patches of black monoprint and shade the picture more. Experiment, learn, enjoy art.
Too much stuff, I’m attached to my books, my paintings, paints, brushes, handbags, sort toys, cushions, ornaments…. My house is full. Bikes, saucepans, old clothes. Everything could be disposed of one day I suppose? What happens when I’m gone. Who will want it all? I’m not a hoarder, but I could be one day. With the pandemic it’s not easy to pass things to charity shops and I don’t like waste so I don’t take things to the tip. Some of this should be repurposed. X
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was outline. I decided to draw my right sandal and left shoe (no I don’t wear them together). Black ink fine line pen. It was good to do a simple drawing for a change.
Helps you see your mistakes.
My copy of the Mona Lisa has eyes that are a bit too big, and maybe the irises don’t quite line up properly. Painting with acrylics means that I don’t always get the paint blended that well. I quite like this double portrait, it feels a bit surrealistic.
I’m watching Spring Watch, a BBC nature programme that is on at this time every year in the UK. Its a pleasure to watch animals and see their lives, to see places in Britain that I may never visit. I can learn about the life cycle of beetles, explore pond life, watch deer that were imported by the Victorians. This time they have discussed ancient oak trees and what lives on them, the release of a seal in Ireland, buzzards and their young, swallow nesting and many other topics. So yes little owl, I’m watching you!

When you play with digital apps you can get all sorts of effects, especially if you use more than one app.
In this piece I created the image using cut monoprint and post-it notes. Next, I imported it to my photodirector app, I used the effects button and converted it to a half tone pattern. Next I took it over to the sketch app and I added a flood fill with rainbow colours a few times. Finally back to photodirector, changing uthe texture and splitting the image into two seperate patterns. Always remembering the back button if I didn’t like the effect!
