Sometimes even blurred photos work. I used photodirector to add texture to this. Why? Because although it was blurred the colours were really interesting. The contrast of dark reds and greens and pale green and pink seemed to work really well. You can still tell what it is but in an abstract way. In a way its sketching with photography. I think it’s still art.

One of my portfolio pages on screen. I was pleased by some of the comments about my book. Juxtaposing black and white images against coloured abstract ‘scales’ drawings. I’m not keen on PowerPoint but it’s better than Word for trying to position images. In Word the pages skip about and then you find your picture on one page and the title or the description on another. Now all I need to do is think about getting the book published if I can.

I have just received my marks and I have passed the MA in illustration!
Now for the anti- climax I guess. The world is still spinning, I still have my difficulties to deal with. Its funny how you build yourself up and worry, then you get your marks and they are still there. But it is an achievement at one stage I wasn’t sure I wanted to carry on. I got a decent mark too and some pointers on how I could have taken my research further. Will I ever write MA after my name? I don’t think so xx
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Ka-ching. I saw it and thought about my preliminary result for my MA due at 4pm today. I decided to draw a slot machine, ike a morphological matrix we used on the course. Seeing how ideas can fit together. Let’s hope I’m lucky!

Bright colours greet
But darker tones calm
Muting strong memories
A face seen by me
Gave me joy.
Sketching fast
Mixing and merging
Growing filaments
Glow metallically.
Digital fun.
A view of my mind….
Or yours?

I was talking to someone today who might be able to help me get some cards published. She was really enthusiastic about my sketches so I’m going to take her up on her offer. I need to get my MA result tomorrow and then I will get the images over to her. I’m really on tenterhooks at the moment, I’m feeling stressed out and tired. But the show must go one!

Two years of work. The results are out tomorrow. Ups and downs. Trying to produce work that will be good enough for a decent mark. It’s been a bit of a slog, but I’m glad I did it. Time to end, time to move on to something else. I was happy with my final major project, a children’s book. Juxtaposing black and white story pages and coloured abstracts. I hope that this will introduce children to art in a different way. I’d like to get the book published. I must find out how.

I keep thinking I should use some of the patterns I draw and paint to create prints on fabric, I’ve certainly done enough over the years. I even have a pair of trousers with a similar pattern on them. I don’t know if I should try one of the online sites to do this, but I don’t know if they would print them well enough. I once bought a dress and a cardigan with a Gustav Klimpt painting and a Van Gogh painting on them, both were really blurred when I got them. I only wore them once, (not thrown away though). I was really disappointed.

Something to do while I try and get over a sore throat. I haven’t done much today. I walked upstairs once, felt dizzy and came back down again. I think the bug I have has got into my inner ears. I’ve had plenty to drink and I’m taking paracetamol.
Have you ever tried spraying biro with hairspray? Sometimes it makes the ink run I used to use the technique many years ago, it might not work these days if the ingredients in the biro ink have changed. I will experiment.
