Cat painting

This was what I was painting at 2am this morning. Bit more to do. I just liked his cheeky look. The background is a bit weird but I might leave it.

Next is a painting of either Mars or Earth. I’ve already done a couple of Jupiter so it would be interesting to paint something different. I just need a decent photo to work from.

Small clematis painting

DSC_2241

Small painting of a clematis flower. Just wanted to do something pretty and still interesting. This may be finished. I haven’t decided yet. So far I’ve started six paintings for the craft fair on Sunday. I’d like to be doing more art to be shown in a gallery, but I also think art is for everyone, and if this is a way to get it out to people?

The problem is deep rooted, artists rarely earn much, and often people want their work virtually for free. I’m a fast painter and I enjoy experimenting with art but that should not make what I do different. I guess it depends on the quality of the work? Also as an artist you can become very self critical. Questioning what you are doing. It’s a difficult thing to deal with. Anyway I keep doing it because I love doing it.

Illustrations

Two pictures of a canal illustration I did last year and the photo I used. Each illustration was done in acrylic paint on water colour paper. I posted a couple of other images here last week.

They were painted in rough ovals to assist fitting them on the leaflet they were for. They were then cropped at the printers.

Im not sure if there will be a reprint of the leaflet. I know they have all disappeared from the leaflet stand at the canal museum where they were on display.

Card illustrations

I did these cards about a year ago. I had taken photos in a friends house because she wanted some home made cards.

If you would like to do something similar all you need I’d a thin black ink pen and acrylic paints thinned down to watercolour consistency. They work as well as watercolours and it saves having to find them out from whatever cupboard I’ve got them in!

I basically drew outlines then filled them in with the paints.

I’ve only done a few more of these. Maybe I will paint more in future.

Palette pattern

I do love the colours that lie underneath the paint layer on my palette. If you use acrylic paint just try peeling the paint layer off carefully. You might be surprised what you find underneath. Colours that clash or harmonise. This works with Acrylics. It won’t work with watercolours and I think that oil paints would still be wet underneath.

You could take a photo of the outcome and play with it as I have.

Is this art? I don’t know, it’s related to art. If I did a series of these by creating new patterns, or photographing every palette I guess I could say it was art. Maybe a type of painting or even fluid art? I’m not sure.

Tabby

Just to show what I can do when I’m trying to paint realistically. This took about 4 hours. I saw a photo of it on an envelope. I’m taking it to the two craft fairs so I can try and get a commission or two.

Size about 6 inches square.

I’m going to charge a reasonable price. I usually undercharge but I will never get anywhere if I don’t try and ask for a decent amount ( not hundreds). I’m trying to make a small living at this so I have to be fair and friendly. But I cannot keep giving things away which I have done in the past …

Life……

Still painting

IMG_20181107_171157_810.jpg

Spent a productive 3 hours today on this…. Very complicated. The 1st canvas needs to be completed by Friday. I’m getting a bit tired so I think I will leave it till tomorrow…..

Trying to get the details is the problem. The image I’m working from is a bit pixelated. I’m bothered about getting the smoothness and roundness of Jupiter and also the blending between the different areas…. Oh well I’ll keep working
