Three years ago I was an extra in a film called Humanus, this is me made up for the preview which was featured on local TV. It was a comedy /rom com/horror /mystery and it was fun to be in! The cast were members of the inter- theatre company and the director was Steve Mitchell. If you look it up you might find Humanus, or at least the trailer on YouTube. It was especially good because part of it was filmed in the Leopard Hotel in Burslem (sadly destroyed by fire earlier this year). Better times…
I’m tired and not feeling much like doing anything, scratchy sore throat and a bit blocked up nose and ears. I decided to doodle a face. Why is it when I draw profiles they normally face left? Previous discussions with other artists raised the idea you can see where to draw easier if you draw the outline first then move back towards the eyes and mouth and ears. This is a finger drawing in ArtRage oils. I need to experiment more with it. I also need to find my stylus.
Tomorrow is November 5th, Bonfire night, Guy Fawkes night. He tried to blow up the houses of Parliament several centuries ago. There is a rhyme. Remember remember the fifth of November, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot.
Apparently gunpowder had been stored under the Houses of Parliament and a group of people intended to blow it up, but the ringleader, Guy Fawkes was caught. Traditionally children collect money to buy fireworks by making a ‘Guy’ out of scraps and wood, and asking for a ‘penny for the Guy’. This usually happened after Halloween.
So tomorrow night I’m expecting lots of bangs and whizzes. The cats will be in. I’ll have the TV on to drown out the noise. Hopefully everything will be OK.
My phone is rammed with data and information. I keep trying to delete files, but there’s too much stuff, particularly photos that I want to keep. WordPress tells me I have insufficient space on my phone and on WordPress too. I decided to mainly use my own images on this blog, but a few years on, despite using smaller images, I keep getting told that I’m up to 100% of images. That’s why some of the pictures have disappeared off this blog. I’m trying to do it on earlier posts, so if I refer to an image you might not see it. I can’t afford more memory on my blog, so that’s the situation as it stands. X
There’s so much politics going on in the world. But what’s worrying in a lot of these elections is the idea that if a party lose they won’t accept the result. Clearly there are some states and countries where elections have been rigged. This is usually in dictatorial states where the regimes never change and the results come out with votes for the incumbent party getting more than 90% of the vote. Places like Russia, China or North Korea spring to mind.
What is more important than some form of fair elections? Free and fair must be the goal.
But recently accusations of stolen elections have occurred in countries where ballots have been normal and peaceful. If the incumbent official lost they generally accepted the result, but not any more. Like spoilt children they cry out ‘its not fair’ , or ‘he cheated’ its almost like leaders have temper tantrums. Weird conspiracy theories are thrown about and as humans are great at storytelling there is a tendency for some of these accusations to stick even where it has been proved that no corruption occurred. There are even attempts to change the rules to disenfranchise some voters.
So where now? People need to be grown up about it. Stop pretending that vote have been miss cast. Allow the real majority to take the chance to rule, and let’s have some sanity. Lying to the public and causing violence and disruption and distress is clearly wrong.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was flash. I doodled these last night but I think they fit in with the prompt ‘flash’. These are quite flashy. Drawings of vase designs. Felt pen drawing and fine ink liner pen. Not well today so doing this yesterday made life easier.
Blugh! I feel tired and ill. Still negative for covid but getting fed up with my sore, croaky throat. It’s so annoying and it feels like it’s going on my chest. My body aches. It’s been so long since I’ve had a proper cold or flu, you forget how lethargic it makes you feel. I’m sitting with the cat poddling (kneading) my knee. Ouch, too tired to push him off. But it’s a comfort… And my nose keeps dripping like a tap. Hubby is cooking poached egg on toast. Hooray!
It’s another one of those nights. I lie down to sleep but my thoughts churn. I’m too hot, then too cold. I tried reading but hubby wants the light out, then he starts to snore. I came downstairs to get a drink, decaffeinated coffee, what a thrill?! I decided to treat myself to a slice of toast with hummus. Not very exciting. I know that at this rate it will be afternoon before I get up. One of the cats is on the armchair next to me, paw over his nose, keeping the light from the standard lamp out of his eyes. Oh to be a cat, curling up wherever you can. Warmed in a fur coat that is totally ethical. The house creaks at night, it’s old and not very well made. I think of my sister late at night. My chest does ache, but it might just be the cold I’ve had for the last few days. I guess I’ve got to learn to live with the loss. I’m still mourning her. Maybe tomorrow night I’ll get a better night’s sleep.
Tuesdays #bandofsketchers prompt was Sugar. I could have drawn granulated sugar, but I chose to draw liquorice allsorts. They were my favourite sweets. I would peel them apart, eat the sweet stuff first then finish it with the liquorice afterwards. Felt pen drawing and black fine ink liner pen.
It’s cloudy again tonight, any sunlight has been stifled by cloud. I’m looking forward to a good, colourful sunset. But if we get that it means we need high pressure and less clouds. That means the sky will clear and heat will be lost so we will get colder weather and frosts. At the moment we are getting gusty winds from the south and scattered heavy showers. It’s knocking the old leaves off the trees. I hope it does clear up, apparently the Taurid meteor shower is due.
Anyway when did this blog turn into a weather forecast? Hmm, must think of something else x
