Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was lateral thinking…. I don’t know or Eye know…. A pun and some thoughtful eyes. Love pattern and colour and this was all about being spectacularly ‘spectacular’! Felt pens and fine line black ink pen.

New paintings and regular art updates.

A friend posted this on Facebook, it looks like it’s from a Chinese or Japanese group? No information about what it is. I would try getting a description from Google but I could not find the url for it. Does anyone know if its real and what it might be? Also no sign if it’s copyrighted, no details of the photographer, so apologies for using the image if it is.

This is the bottom half of a Jardinere I saw at Salts Mill, Saltaire in Yorkshire this week. I was attracted by the mythical beast. A sphinx perhaps? I love the strong red glaze and the crisp modelling of it. There is a top section which has a cherub or some sort of child modeled on it.

I would have included larger photos, but I’m running out of memory!

Arches are strong. Arches support weight because pressure is pushing inwards towards a central point. They have a keystone that holds everything together. I wish I knew the mathematics that explained this. But it is something amazing when you see arches in churches or castles or other religious or secular places supporting the rooves of buildings. They can be so elegant and flimsy looking but they have innate strength. All due to forces, and geometry.

Mares tails over head
Flying out across the sky
Fluttering, fraying
Splitting and plaited
Spreading across the blue
Mares tails, mares manes,
Weather vanes
Foretelling Rain.

Rehearsal day. We went to find out about a production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ended up getting the parts of Mr and Mrs Fezziwig. The rehersal was at a place called Mellards and I was impressed by this mural of a duck painted on the wall. I’m not sure about the stars/ gunshot holes? I hope no one would shoot at it! Anyway got to learn a few lines… Eek!

A blanket by my sister. She was crocheting lots of blankets and granny squares. One of the things she had was many balls of wool. I think they will have to go to a new home. It’s good to see she was creative in a different way to me, but she must have put many hours of work into this. I will truly miss her.

Jug I decorated at a Stoke on Trent pottery for a Christmas present I did a few years ago. I think that this was done at Stafford Pottery in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. It’s about half the price of the Emma Bridgwater pottery in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. I tend to paint flowers and cats on things like this. I decorated it as a tortoiseshell cat, black tabby and white. These tend to be female cats if I remember rightly. Something to do with their genetics.

Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt was solid. I went a bit mad and abstract. I wasn’t sure whether to try and draw platonic solids (not successful). Then I put it through a couple of filters. So it’s colourful and a bit textured.

I found this in my studio last week. I thought I had sold it. I used two seperated photos of different plates and amalgamated them. I also found a painting of a jug and a teapot. I might try and find them a new home….
