Who am I talking to?
Why am I here?
Do I bore you
With this blog.
Expressing myself
Sharing my thoughts
Or is it just an echo chamber
Like vanity publishing.
Do you want me to be here?
Or should I desist.
Stop all this?
New paintings and regular art updates.

Life has a way of messing things up. I was going to do something this weekend but it looks like I can’t now. I’m not discussing what that was, but life is complex and sometimes you just have to go with the flow.
Just when you decide what to do, a different situation occurs that you had no idea would happen, no control over. Then you have to weigh up the importance of one thing against the other. Perhaps the original situation was going to be very important to you. But now it becomes almost irrelevant. You have to rethink things and maybe change your mind.
I don’t know what will happen, I will have to wait till the morning to decide. As I say I’m not going to discuss this (please don’t ask) I’m trying not to be mysterious, just trying to make a decision.

Cat time, time for your cat. To love them, feed them, play with them, let them ignore you, hide from you. Disagree with your choice of food for them. Accept that sometimes they will bring you unwanted ‘presents’. They go away for a few days, just so they can worry you. Eat your food off your plate, ignore the toys and treats you get them. Sitting in empty boxes so you can’t throw them away.
When your cat friend scratches or bites you it’s probably because you have been a bit heavy handed or frightened them. It’s always better to be gentle. Remember that a cat is probably a fifty or hundred times smaller than you! They have interesting and intelligent abilities, it’s good to find out about them. X

I think I need a walk in a calm wood, something gentle and cool. A place with clear paths that are not overgrown and tangled. Somewhere for quiet thought and calm moods.
We may be going soon en plein Air to draw or paint at the Dorothy Clive Garden out in the countryside. I look forward to it, the quarry garden is depicted in the photo and it is a tranquil place for a visit.

The debate over politics continues. Boris Johnson has resigned as leader of the Conservative Party but remains as a caretaker Prime Minister for the next three or four months while his Members of Parliament decide who they want to select as their new leader. Several ex ministers have been suggested and some have even said they will stand. This will be the fourth Conservative Prime minister in six years. They have been in power for twelve.
Why write about this as an artist? Because things are getting worse not better. Cost of living, less rights, more poverty, poorer education. We keep getting told things are getting better? Really, I do wonder?

For mist of our existence humans lived outside or in caves or huts. It is only within the last few thousand years that we started to live in villages, then towns and finally cities. With each increase in population we have moved away from greenery and plant life. The movement into flats and apartments has imprisoned us in concrete even more.
Humans need shelter from the elements, either the cold of the winter, the heat of the summer and the changes in wind and rain. So buildings are needed, but perhaps we should include more greenery in these places. Not just lawns or neat hedges, but more green walls or indoor planting.
It’s good for our mental health, a connection to our historical past. If it could also be used to clean the air, or add a layer of cool air to our streets surely it is worth pursuing?
Instead I see stories in the press of trees being cut down, ancient ones, to make way for railways, or being blamed for damaging buildings, instead of reversing the engineering and not building next to ancient trees. Let’s have an intelligent discussion about this. Green in important to out health and our planet.

I must stop scrolling
Looking through
Liking this
Loving that
Might be better
To watch paint dry!
All those hooks
To catch your eye?
There’s too much to see
Read and watch.
My fingers are sore
Haptic touch
My mind wizened
Not widened
By endless ‘stuff’
The opium of the masses
Absorbed through your eyes!

What is a constitution and can it be changed?
I’m not going to mention current politics in America, as I’m not an American I don’t have enough knowledge of how it works. But I am going to question whether something has to stay the same in perpituity (forever).
There are some commandments in the bible that are no longer followed, for instance two thousand years ago people were told not to eat shellfish. This was probably sensible then, but as time has gone by and hygiene has improved, this command is no longer relevant.
When some constitutions were written many things were not possible, or not invented – space flight, open heart surgery, flight, trains, etc. So if you follow a constitution set in stone you might not be allowed to use some of these things. Flight being only allowed for birds and bat’s for example.
But if a law is wrong, why not change it? Why not modernise? Why then go back to old fashioned ideas? If you go back where do you stop? Do you take away the vote for everyone but the rich? Do you stop women going out to work? Bring back slavery? There are places in the world where a woman may not drive a car unless accompanied by a man.
Then when you do have rules they get broken, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. Humans are not perfect. They can make bad decisions, act illegally, cause trouble.
So what can we do? Try and act fairly, act with consideration for others, be polite, try not to overreact to others, but have an opinion, and try to care. That’s all I can come up with.

I made this image using a blow up globe and a bath towel..
Trying to replicate the globe rising over the limb of the moon. But obviously our world doesn’t have latitude or longitude printed on it! And we don’t have different countries coloured in to indicate where there bordered are. I wonder how flat earth believers react to the real image. Do they think the other half of the world is on the back? If it was flat the sun wouldn’t rise slowly but it would illuminate half of the world straight away (unless you are behind a mountain) then after twelve hours set immediately. One side of the world would be in daytime at the same time, the other night time. Get rid of most time zones! Only two needed, twelve hours separating them. Plus you’d notice crossing the edge! And no seasons, so no equatorial heat or Arctic and antarctic regions! And where does the edge fall and wouldn’t the international space station notice?
Thinking… Its good to try it out!

Imagine a green world, floating through space. Surrounded by a spherical forcefield that holds air and water in and keeps damaging radiation out. It can only survive where there is bright enough sunlight to allow the vegetation to survive unless it is equipped with power to keep it warm enough and keep artificial lights working for photosynthesis to happen. But plants have a limited lifespan, then they die and with the right biology break down and turn into compost. So the sphere needs to have enough space to keep growing, and enough resources to maintain a steady environment. Maybe there are large bodies of water to supply the plants.
I could be describing little spacecraft that could travel across space and seed new worlds? Or maybe it’s our planet. In either case, the environment needs protecting so that it can survive and thrive. If we imagine earth to be just a small spacecraft, where an imbalance could end its life, then perhaps we might take more care of it. X
