A striped tee shirt

Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

I miss that tee shirt

It was orange and white

I felt like a pirate

Fun to play in.

I was only a child

Wore it forever

But it wore through

Holes in the cotton

But wouldn’t let it go!

Eventually grew out of it

My mom used it to dust!

An old tee shirt.

What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?

My tee shirts are getting holey before I throw them away. Most of my clothes are more than five years old and many are much older. If I get rid of them I put them out for charity or take them to a clothes bank for recycling. I can’t afford to spend lots of money on clothes. I’m not a designer shaped person (thin), I’m short and chubby. I’ve never bought clothes by well known makers. If it fits and it looks OK that’s good enough for me.

Why waste money on clothes you wear once or twice then throw them away? I think the reuse, repair, recycle, restore values are the ones to live by.

Fushias in November

We might get a cold snap in the next few days. At the moment though they are clinging on. Inside our house, I’ve just had to torn the heating off. We had a radiator mended in the week and now it’s pumping out warmth. I’m sitting here in a tee shirt and thinking I might turn it back off at the valve…

Let’s see what happens when the weather cools. If it gets frosty, if it snows. Then I won’t just be wearing a fushia pink tee shirt, and the flowers outside might be gone.

I don’t have outfits

Not me…

If you were forced to wear one outfit over and over again, what would it be?

If I were forced to wear an outfit it would always be a tee shirt and trousers. But I would say that is casual clothing and not an ‘outfit’. I guess if I were forced I might wear dungarees with some sort of blouse? I like being comfortable and I am a bit clumsy so I might spill my coffee or food, so if I wear patterned tee shirts any stains might be less noticeable!

The other reason why I don’t like outfits is that I had to look smart for my job of twenty-five years. It was horrible to wear such straight-laced clothes. And boring. And unimaginative….

One outfit I did like wearing was one of my friends tie dye tee shirts with patchwork trousers. I felt like a real artist when I wore that. I would be happy to wear that until it fell apart!

Colours

Remind me not to play with colours! I have stacks of samples of colours on my phone. Sometimes, like this, I put them together in a simple pattern. Different layers and shapes, folds and twists. I chose rainbow colours, but I think the red is actually a deep orange.

Interesting how colour perception differs from person to person.

I like the way there is a definite hard line seperating each line of hot colours from the blues, greens and purples. Interesting what you can do with photos of carrier bags, tee shirt material, yellow paper, a cleaning cloth and a patterned throw.

Pattern

I drew this a few weeks ago. Now I’m thinking it would make a good design for some cotton material, maybe a panel on a tee shirt or a pair of trousers. I actually have a pair in black and white that is similar to this. It’s amazing what you can do with a black ink pen and a bit of technology. I just need to find someone to work with.

If you know any innovative art sites that do printing let me know. I did think about joining somewhere called spoonflower but I wasn’t certain about it.
