A lovely clear night,
Moonlight and dusk
My husband shouts bat!
I look out and see..
Nothing….
Clear sky..
White moon,
Silhouetted trees.
He shouts
It’s darting and flitting.
I look again
Nothing.. No bat!
So I drew one!
New paintings and regular art updates.

One red bar of cloud
reflected in the canal,
Blue grey and pale peach
silhouette leaves and trees
mobile mast and cables.

You are serene
No longer busy with horse and butty boats.
Tranquil sunset
Blazing sky.

The night draws in again
Sunset and its rosy glow is gone
Eight minutes before the sun set
Light travelling ultra fast,
Eight minutes to shine from sun to earth.
Energy in motion, then lost
Behind the hill
Night infects the light
It’s inky blackness sometimes reduced
By moon and stars
Or reflected light on clouds.
But the dark cannot hold as the earth turns.
Tipped slightly, seasons prevail North and south.
As spring arrives days grow longer
Now sunsets late or never
While equator stays the same
the North and South vary.
Sunset later every day till mid summer
Then decline.

It took me a few months to realise that there is a panorama mode on this phone. This was westport lake last month. I like that my partner is at the far right and the path continues at the far left. The geese are at different heights which seems to work with the step where the landing stage cuts into the waters surface. Mine and my friends shadow are a bit annoying but the sun was setting behind us and all the shadows fan in towards the lake. I like how the path on the left is straight and not curved like the rest of the photo.
I’m picking random photos to look at because often they just get a glance and then I move on……

The trees by the lake cry wooden tears,
The sky glints grey and gold.
Silver shimmers, water waves,
Cold walk in sunset glow.
It was about 5 years ago when we were on holiday in Devon. We had arrived at the camp site late in the evening after a leisurely drive down from the Midlands.
As the Sun started to set we walked down through the dunes to the beach. My eye was taken by a pillar of sunlight shining from below the horizon where the Sun had just set. I have seen sundogs before (reflections off clouds on either side of and above the Sun that look like tiny parts of rainbows). But I did not know what this was. Luckily I had my camera with me and snapped these shots.
I later found out this was a sun pillar, caused by the sun reflecting off high icy clouds. I’ve never seen another one.
We live on the wrong side of the hill to see sunsets, so it’s only when I see a glimpse of red or pink reflecting off the clouds that I know something is happening.
Today I was coming home from the shops and I saw a gap in the clouds and a tiny patch of blue. There was also a glimmer of rouge painting a fiery base to the clouds.
I quickly drove over the hill and tried to find a spot where the view wasn’t hidden by trees or houses.
He view was a grey one, with a tiny glimmer of red fighting the street lights on the horizon. The trees and iron fence made strong silhouettes against it. I wish I could have been there 10 minutes earlier. It may have been glorious, but I missed it.
One day I might live in a sunset facing house. Now I just look out for pink clouds and dash up over the hill.
