Knitted drawing

FB_IMG_1583851779602

I loved this drawing app, but when I changed devices I couldn’t get it to load on my new tablet. It was fascinating to see this texture appear in the drawing. I cannot remember where I got it from, and now I can’t even remember it’s name! Over the years I’ve done lots I’d digital art, some of it is more easy to use than others. I think this was relatively simple.

One of the things about art applications is the amount if memory they take. I’ve found that I cannot run all the apps I want to because I mainly use my devices to create art, and that takes up memory on them. I don’t know if I’m unusual in doing this. I probably need to delete a lot of things, it’s just I’m too attached.

Outside today

I went out with Urban sketchers today and was at an old farm near Eccleshall to draw. I took a few photos. I need to take good pictures of my drawings.

The day was grey, overcast with great rushes of wind that you could hear soughing through the trees. Starting far way you could hear it rushing and pushing the tree branches. Rooks were flying and calling in the air, scooting about and apparently enjoying it. We even saw a murmuration of Starlings flocking in the distance.

I sat on a white metal garden chair, strong but cold. I ended up folding up my scarf to stop my bum going numb with the cold. Within a few minutes I was shivering and then I got used to it although my hands started to go numb with the chill. Luckily there was hot tea available. It was very kind of the artists that live there to let a crowd of about twenty urban sketchers come round and draw everything from trees to stone dogs.

Quick drawing

Quick sketch

I’m trying sketching in an app called sketcher free, it’s interesting drawing with textured pens, but it’s not easy to control. This is drawn on a tablet, so the format of wordpress is different in it, not wordpress classic. I’m not sure this is going to work. Anyway you only learn by having a go at things, if you don’t try you never know if you can do it. I’ve found the categories tab but I can’t find the sharing tab . So at least I’m doing something , still not feeling well.

A drawing of a steam engine

FB_IMG_1567207629331

I like to try and sketch things when I’m visiting places, and this is my attempt at a steam engine when we were visiting. Middleport pottery in August 2018.i don’t know why I thought it was bad, it doesn’t look too awful now in hindsight. I can be too critical of myself sometimes. It’s a bit wonky but when you are trying to draw a moving bit of machinery it’s not easy. Anyway I’m publishing it, so I’ve forgiven myself for my mistakes.

Black ink pen on cartridge paper, it’s probably in one of my numerous sketchbooks, somewhere in the pile of drawings and sketches I have built up over the years.

Our history

DSC_0007

Potbank, Stoke-on-Trent. I think I drew this at the Gladstone Pottery museum last year? This was part of a ‘throw down’ held by Stoke Urban Sketchers after an afternoon of drawing in rain and shine. We were in a covered area so we could put the drawings down on the ground.

Urban sketchers usually draw outside, so we need to wrap up warm when we go out in the winter, and shelter when it’s raining or windy.

Next year I want to go out with them more often. You get to see places you might not go to otherwise.

Don’t undersell?

_20191124_120301.JPG

I’m a bad person! I try and sell things at a reasonable price, but then I like being nice to people and I often haggle myself down on prices! It’s like I’m at a car boot not a craft fair. Help! But I can’t employ someone. Got to do it for myself…

I think everyone should have the opportunity to have art if they want it, and forget that people have to make a living out of it. I will not be winning business woman of the year…

While I was stall sitting I did a quick sketch of people around a stall across the way from me. There are some lovely things for sale. On the whole I’m enjoying myself.

Profile

DSC_2335

I need to practice real drawing, I do a lot of digital stuff, and quick sketches but I only tend to do portraits of my hubby. I think I need to start drawing at a life drawing class again. I vaguely know where eyes and noses and mouths fit, it’s just when you are not looking at a person it doesn’t look real. I have a reasonable visual memory, I know, but that doesn’t make me accurate. I always think I could do better…..like this profile for instance, is the chin to big, the mouth too small, the brow too sloping? It’s all down to practice.

A third of the way through November circles.

I’m not posting these very often, it’s not like the October one inch challenge, but I am trying to do a drawing each day. It’s a little visual diary. So things like going out to lunch and treating myself to a Gin and Tonic (very weak) is on there. Plus trying to find a stray cats owner and falling over and hurting myself yesterday (I drew that today). I will carry on and see whatever else happens.
