Nine years ago

On my Facebook memories. One of our old cats plus a painting I did of him. I can’t help but notice the similarity between him and our outdoor cat.

Cats come and go, but most of the ones we have had have been black and white ‘tuxedo cats’.

Why? Most of our cats were strays or rescue cats when we got them. Perhaps there is a cat family in the area, maybe they have the same antecedents? Certainly this cat could be the father of our new cat, or related in some way. I’m glad they came to us and sad that we lost this one. He passed away about nine years ago and might have been poisoned by antifreeze. He went missing and when we found him he was already dead. Such a shock. I miss him.

Doodles

I think I was trying to do abstract faces with lines here. Somehow the doodles at the bottom of the picture seem to fit with the contours above. I don’t remember the canvas so I probably painted over it. Sometimes what you paint is not what you want and you have to scrap it. Sometimes you fool yourself into thinking somethings OK when it really isn’t. I like some things and they just won’t work…. I may try and alter this in a digital app? Don’t know. I think this image is about three or four years old….

Watching Sky Landscape artist..

Tried to paint Chartwell while watching #skylandscapeartist, bit old fashioned? Took about fifty minutes, in watercolour. Hard to hold my phone and a little A5 sketchpad at the same time and paint and watch the TV.

Watercolour sketch. My frozen shoulder makes my arm shake so the lines are a bit wobbly.

Boat and hubby

The boat is probably about 90 years old? The painting of my hubby is about forty years old. You know you are getting on when things you own start to age with you!

Time passes, faster it seems as you get older. Ten years just flew by. I have so much stuff that I have collected over the years. I wish it was displayed beautifully… But its not.

Copying Bonnard

Orme art groups winter challenge was to take a numbered square from this Bonnard painting and try and copy it. Then when they are done by group members they are pieced back together as a final collaboration of the group.

I did one using felt pens and permanent markers. This one is done in watercolours. I’m not completely convinced by my painting but I’m not going to do any more to it. X

Behind.. Today’s prompt

Black and white and coloured versions. Looking in a little make up mirror at a big painting that I did years ago that is on the wall behind me. Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was ‘behind’. Quite difficult to draw a tiny reflection of a large painting on the wall behind me. A bit cartoon I’m afraid.

Falcon works

A couple of paintings I did two years ago? They were on display in the waiting room gallery at Longport. These are paintings of the Falcon Works behind Portmeirion pottery in Stoke-on-Trent. A lot of these buildings are either falling down or just sitting empty. I wish some of them could be restored. There is a wonderful place called the Black Country Museum in Dudley I think in Central England. They have rebuilt many old buildings on the site so you can visit and see the history of industry and businesses in England. There are some museums in Stoke-on-Trent which are smaller versions. For example the Gladstone pottery museum. It’s a real shame that so many old buildings are being allowed to fall into rack and ruin.
