I remember a tree

I remember a tree that seemed to have a face, and used to scare me when I was a child. There were knot holes where branches had broken off that looked like a face. I remember watching the Wizard of Oz and seeing the wicked witch. For some reason the tree and the witch were linked in my mind. I know I used to walk home through the park sometimes, but I wouldn’t go down that path if it was getting dark.. I also remember walking on the top of an old stone wall, balancing on the top of it, pretending to be a gymnast…. This was over forty years ago. When I look at photos of the park it has a lot more civilised appearance!

Sandwich

She asked him again not to make a sandwich on the cupboard top. The cats jump up there and you don’t know what they are leaving there! Here, use a plate?

The man shouted that she was nagging, he didn’t need a plate. She tried again, there could be viruses or bacteria, you haven’t wiped it down?

But he still wouldn’t listen. So she decided to accidentally sprinkle coffee grains and sweetner on the cupboard. At least then if he went to make a sandwich he might use a plate? But no, he didn’t but at least he wiped the cupboard down!

Drawing a set

My college course is getting us to make sets and draw from them. So I’ve created this bizarre landscape. The figures were decorated at a pottery workshop. The goat figurine was made by my friend Rie. The baby Buddha was a gift from a friend. The plants are from the kitchen as is the grater. Now I’ve got to redraw it but use my imagination to change it…. M

Rose

Pink and beautiful.

It’s amazing how this has gone from a drooping bud to a full blown Rose. I use the plant food that came with the flowers.

I don’t know what the ingredients are, the stuff in the little plastic packet is clear and sticky, is it a sugar mix or something like a high energy energy drink?

Nowadays flowers seem to last a lot longer if you feed and look after them.

A perfect subject for art.

Amaryllis

It’s great how these bulbs become dormant after flowering, eventually the old leaves die down… Then they spring back into life when you water them about this time of year. Little and often is my way of doing it. Water but don’t drench. The bulbs swell, then suddenly a couple of leaves sprout, growing rapidly with a flower spike. I have kept one bulb for ten years. Each time it grows bigger. But don’t be eager to put it in a larger pot. It takes a few years, it likes being crammed in a pot. I only move them into the next size up pot. My oldest has grown a secondary bulb that also flowers….

Not keeping up

So much to read, do, think about. My blog is suffering, I’m out walking a lot more, and tired out when I get back. So I sit and rest. I can’t keep track. Emails, posts, lectures, reviewing, learning, tired.

Can I do it? Can I keep going? I’m hoping as I get fitter I will be able to catch up and do more. Don’t ask me to add to my burden, I don’t think I can take on more. Had my first good night’s sleep for a month last night, but I’m still tired.

Tonight was lockdown portrait night

I really enjoy the chance to draw people so tonight’s lockdown drawings were fun. I’m trying out using permanent markers to give the faces a bit more definition. Maybe I can use watercolour next week? I did a pose too, I might try and draw myself as it’s been recorded. Not today though. A lot to catch up on…
