Madness from Russia

🇷🇺

Looking East this morning at the rain I feel sad and worried.

It’s happened. Russia is invading Ukraine. Why? President Putin seems to have become angry with Ukraine getting on with life and decided to try and take it back into a new sort of Soviet Union. However he tries to justify it, it does seem like madness. His troops have even taken over the old chernobil nuclear power station that blew up disastrously (in the 1980’s I think?). Why? If they shell that it could spread nuclear waste across Europe, Ukraine, but also Russia. Why be so mad? Why try and hurt people.

Russia and the West could get on, we could discuss things sensibly, but children, adults, older people are being hurt and killed. Why? What right has one man got to hurt and maim and kill people in a country that he does not control. Perhaps this is more notable to Europeans as it is happening on European soil. It says bad things about us that we neglect what happens in other parts of the World. We leave places to their fate like Syria and Afghanistan. We don’t understand the internal politics and the problems between different factions. How can we deal with anything if we don’t understand. Russias preemptive strikes are frightening and baffling.

Cat pays rent!

Our outdoor, now indoor boy cat (seen sleeping here) seems to think he’s obliged to pay rent for staying here! It is quite upsetting when he brings small rodents like shrews and mice in. Sometimes we manage to rescue them. I hate it when he has a mouse moustache! I’m trying to teach him not to do it, but mostly I shout and tell him off and he looks bewildered (and bewhiskered).

Last night was mad. The mouse he bought in escaped into the bathroom but we managed to get it out by shutting our three cats in the kitchen and opening the back door. Since the bathroom is downstairs it was just a short run out for the mouse. The cats were contented with some cat food and we breathed a sigh of relief. I hope it doesn’t happen again soon!

What should I post?

Am I getting boring? A bit of art and sketching, some poetry, stories about cats.

Sketching, drawing, painting. What more things should I try? More short stories. I suddenly find my stats have dipped. Is it the weather, the time of year. The threat of war in Ukraine. I can’t imagine how that will pan out.

I’m looking forward to a supernova that they have said may flare up soon. I’m strangely enthusiastic about space and science. I’m really more interested in stars not stats. Does that make me boring? Too many questions. No answers

Information!

You get an email. We need this information, we must have this document. Please send a PDF of your certificate. Please fill in the form marked exhibit B!

Well it feels like that. I’m trying to find bits of information that I haven’t seen for thirty years! It’s just part of our modern life. Everything is online. But what happens if you don’t have it or are not totally expert in it. I’ve transferred PDFs but can’t find them now….

I rang up. Yes of course you can post the information in to us! Phew. My hubby never uses our computer. So I’m his secretary. Better than having it thrown out of the window!

WordPress keeps stopping?

I don’t know if it’s me or WordPress but the site keeps closing on me. I’ve just deleted a few more photographs from previous posts and taken my memory down to 98.3% full! I’ve always posted my own pictures here and I used to always post large images.. Big mistake. I can’t afford to upgrade my memory. I guess I will have to keep my pictures restricted in size and keep deleting them!

Cat toy on a mat

Found my old cat toy while tidying up today. I will balance him on the back of the sofa but I couldn’t resist putting him on my old mat. Then I played with the texture to emphasise the fake fur on him. He has a gold tartan ribbon. I think I got him to go with a ‘merrythought’ tortoise soft toy that I won in a raffle years ago. That’s missing too, but I only just realised that because they are linked together in my mind.

Now my cats have come in. They want food! The toy cat has one advantage, it doesn’t need feeding!

Storm Eunice

The storm hit today. We were on the northern edge and although its been windy with heavy rain I don’t think it was as bad as storm Desmond earlier in the week.

I’m staying at home as I have a sore throat and aches. I guess it might be the weather. It seems like you get different bugs depending on the temperature?

While I sit and watch the trees blowing about I believe that Britain generally gets a few named storms a year. Eunice is a bad one. It mainly hit down in the South of the country. A wind speed of 122 miles an hour was measured at the Needles, a series of cliffs on the Isle of Wight. Part of the canvas covering of the Millennium Dome was ripped off. Trains were cancelled throughout Wales. Major bridges were closed. Rooves were torn off and a church steeple blew down. I know Cornwall, Devon and Somerset have been affected and London Fire Brigade was inundated with calls.

There may be snow blizzards tonight in the North of England and in Scotland and Northern Ireland. They were saying 10 to 30 centimeters of snow may fall.

Meanwhile here… Its been a bit breezy. My city is about as far away from the coast as you can get, in the centre of the country. Our river is quite small here. It doesn’t create massive flooding, hopefully things will be OK. We may lose a few tiles, a chimney pot or two.
