After the #30daysketchbookchallenge yesterday and #MendNotTrend last week I decided to draw a few abstract patterns based on the prompts. They are all based on circles, two in colour and one black and white. They were all drawn in the Sketch app I use. I didn’t use any filters for these just lines and the flood fill option (plain and rainbow fills).
Playing with colour and pattern. I drew this in the Sketch app then used a rainbow flood fill option in the same app and then used photodirector. Finally I put them together in the Layout app.

I like the colours on the drawn lines when I flood filled them. They remind me of Mandalas.

A digital drawing that I used texture and flood fill on. I feel like the result is somehow alien, maybe some sort of spiritual feeling. Maybe it’s the colours that seem like stained glass. The purple coming down the nose reminds me of a helmet with light shining on it. The front of the body could be interpreted as a chest plate or armour.
When you are adding texture it’s interesting to decide when to stop. The same with the flood fill. Too much or not enough? I think you learn as you go along what sort of image you want.

I went a bit psychedelic when I created this. The bare branches and twigs of the bushes in this photo created cells that I used a flood fill on. There are about three birds on the twigs, you might be able to see them.. The buildings are a line of terraced houses over the road from the hedge. It’s a combination of analogue and digital. It reminds me of stained glass.

I was playing around with a photo of the stained glass windows in the church and came up with this. I sort of like it although I’m not sure the church would. When you use flood fill it causes a loss of details so you can’t see the faces on the image. I chose a rainbow flood fill so could create circles on top of the image.
Circles
curves and angels
winged with colour
flying high.
Art with rainbows
Black reflections,
illuminating and obscuring.
Circular arguments,
simple shapes
scriptural thoughts
saints and sinners,
seperated by glass.

So many years ago, 2003 was when I did this art work. The hand print was a photocopy of my hand I think. Then I used photoshop to add colours using flood fill and a drawing tool. Finally I used one of the texture tools to break the image up into shards.
16 years on its at my studio at Spode. I really want to do more experimental stuff. I have been trying to get in the front room where my computer is but it’s full of my partners train stuff which I don’t want to move.
Life can be complicated. You have to have give and take. That’s what my lifeline was shining I guess (although I don’t believe in that kind of thing).
