Artrage face

Abstract face finger painted with the Artrage app on my phone. I like the way the different brushes and changing the roughness of the surface and grain size gives it a real textured surface. I added lines on the eyes and mouth rising a roller tool that left a line if you dabbed your finger on the surface of the phone. I also added spirals on the edges of the picture, I was trying to make it look like material. If you turn the pen up to 100% metallic the colours get darker.

Got new Glitter pens

Experimenting with new felt pens

Doodling on cartridge paper which was a nice surface to draw on. I’m using a different sketchbook and got some new glittery felt pens. Unfortunately the sparkle is not very strong. I then added black liner pen and some gold pen. I almost added a face to this, but left it as finished. However if I can add it digitally as a background I might have a go at drawing over it in a digital app……

Statue scribble

A few days ago there was a news story about a museum that gave children crayons and paper when they visited. Unfortunately one of the children used a blue crayon to scribble all over an old sculpture. I was drawing a female head and shoulders and it suddenly struck me that it looked a bit like the statue. I added lines, and it seemed even more like the scribbled statue. Strange what your mind takes you.

Face sketch

Artrage sketch

Used as many tools as I could on the Artrage app to sketch this. It could be a design for a stained glass window design. I tried to make it look mediaeval. I wanted it to look translucent. Using different textures. I tried to keep the colours to the blue, green and purple side of the spectrum. I like using lines for this image. Blue eyes.

Doodle

I’m tired after painting yesterday, but I might do something later. I decided to crop a picture I did a while ago. I like using geometric pattern and chaotic lines to create something different. Halfway between graffiti and a crystalline structure. One of the things about art is meaning. Often you have a long explanation next to a piece of art. However I do think art should speak for itself. Possibly I’m not intellectual enough to write a story about urban decay to explain this but, you know, it’s a doodle…. Maybe it indicates confusion. X

A new drawing

I’ve found a new sketching app to download. I’ve used it before on my PC but not on my phone. It has a myriad of tools and a lot more flexibility than the previous sketching app I had. It’s not as intuative but as I sort of know my way round it I’ve got a headstart. This doodle was done in a few minutes. It was meant to resemble the Alfred Hitchcock cartoon but it doesn’t really. Still it sort of works I guess.

Bust doodle

Doodle in gold and silver pen. Originally a contoured drawing in three quarter position, I added chequered squares to fill in the spaces. That left the image surrounded by blank paper, so I added silver triangles. The gold ink had covered some of the original drawing so I added black pen shadows. I thought this was a fun idea.

Birds again.

Whether or not its the time if year, I’m seeing far less birds in the garden now than I did a few years ago. We always had a flock of house sparrows flitting in and out of the hedge, and blackbirds and a Robin and bluetits. Maybe some have migrated for the year. I must get some more bird food. Now the weather is getting colder they all need more support.
