Silhouette

DSC_0965_optimized

Sometimes it’s nice just to take a close up abstract shot of something. Shapes become more important than detail. Tiny pink petals almost look like butterflies and the straggly money plant, which is cast in shadow, raised its bulbous leaves up to the sky. The thin pale leaves of the spider plant are almost translucent in the light.

Then again you can play about with silhouettes in nature or draw dark doodles to make a pleasing composition.

Always explore, always enjoy, always create if you can.

Phoenix

You sparkled as you flew

high above me

a tail of fire,

comet like,

Greens and Golds.

Cold fire flew from you wings,

Hot fire your breath.

Feathers of glass or crystal

tied with silver wire

Shreak of sound

high register like a whistle…

Then a shrinking bloom of fire

like time-lapse in reverse

your feathers folding in

wormhole like

creating a single golden glowing egg

Once created, to hatch and grow again.

Who you looking at

Glaring in the mirror. Don’t know if it’s a reflection or your brother?

I thought I would draw this after seeing a beautiful painting of a lion on the TV. I didn’t manage to do it that well so I’ve been playing with colour and this is the result. It’s just fun to play…

The title came from the idea that they are looking at each other. It could be that they are separate animals or that it’s one lion and a reflection.

Five years ago I had been part of an online art group called Sketchfu. It was a large site and I was one of the moderators. It had a simple drawing programme with five sizes of pens, a colour picker, 50 or 60 colours and opacity controls. And yet people were creating art, drawings, enjoying the thrill of sharing their art work. It was like a small WordPress for artists.

Then it all went wrong. The owners became less available. More text was being published as younger contributors got interested in writing blogs instead of drawing. The moderators were not told about what was going on and the owners started promoting a new site. Eventually it was announced the old sketchfu site would close.

On that day I lost a lot of friends  I managed to keep a few. They are still around even 5 years later but I do miss all those others I met online.

One line drawings.

When I used to draw at Youdraw.com I would do one line drawings. Basically you kept your cursor moving on the drawing area and didn’t lift it until you finished… Thats what I’ve done here … But then duplicated it and flood filled it. Sometimes it’s nice to lose black lines.

I’m having a makeover on social media. I’m now @mallabandbrown on twitter… I will be using it more to post about paintings and other exploratory art that I’m planning over the next few months .

Pattern

untitled_010

Colours, shapes and texture make up this pattern. Using digital apps can create images that would not be easy to create on paper or canvas.img_20190117_002155

Once you have done that you could use another app to duplicate and twist the images. I love patterns and continue to create images like this.

It’s really not hard to do and it would be good to see more art being created in this way. Be brave! Have a go! You might surprise yourself.
