Some favourites from 2018?

Well I think it was 2018. Time gets mixed up in my brain. I enjoyed going to a life drawing group for a while then other things got in the way, the drawing of a dancer and a guitarist are from there. I had a go at using gold leaf on pictures, which is the picture of the crow or rook. The teacup with a willow pattern was a hat for our local panto. The owls was one of my first tiny paintings. The tree is one I drew while we were up in Yorkshire on the Keithley and Worth Valley railway. The houses ainting is based on a picture I had done in 1980. The photo of  me in the mirror is in my studio.

So that was the selection from 2018. I might do one for 2019.

Rook or Crow

IMG_20191127_024920_352

I painted this tiny picture about a year ago. I think I copied an old illustration. He just seems to have such a cheeky character. With his great beak, ready to sever your fingers if you are not careful. I think of him planning and plotting, soaring high above his roosting site while he is getting ready to settle down to sleep, or joining his group in the nearby fields. I don’t remember what a group of crows are called, but I think rooks are a “murder”, but I might be misremembering.

So that’s this tiny painting, if he had a name? Reginald…..

Calling this finished

Just did a few more adjustments. Painting on the texture of canvas is difficult when you try and brush paint on it. I half feel like I ought to paint a thick layer first so I could paint on a rough surface. But it’s not bad. I could see where I need to make changes, it’s sometimes difficult to force the paint into the nooks and crannies of the canvas. Phew.

Kingfisher

I went to the Orme Art group this morning and afternoon to paint. It was our Christmas meeting so we stopped early for lunch, but before that I started this painting of a Kingfisher, I have been using some iridescent paints to give some glimmer and shine to the bird and the background.

I came home early because I’m still tired from working on the mural yesterday. I want to add details to it to try and make it a bit more like a Kingfisher. I have tried, when I started someone thought it was a Woodpecker!

Funny little paintings

I’m sort of running out of ideas for the craft stall this weekend. So I’m painting variations on owls. A Christmas bauble with cat, and a frosty tree with faces in it. I’m not sure what my reasons behind them are? I am very tired so it might be phantoms from my dreams?!

Anyway, back to the mural in the morning, then more to do in the evening…. Yikes!

Memory of my favourite cat.

I painted this several years ago. She was my favorite cat. Always sitting behind the weeping fig at the top of the stairs. I painted her a couple of years before she passed away. I know it’s a long time ago because the fig grew to be about six foot high when we finally got rid of it. It’s one of very few paintings I had framed, because it was for myself. I generally don’t put them on as people can then choose what they want.

She was a lovely friendly cat, and very clever. Much loved.
