I’ll go out and buy one.

A handbook for engineering,

A toy racing car,

A second hand oil heater.

I’ll go out and buy one he said.

We don’t need an engineers thesaurus,

A scalextric set,

Extra heating,

She advised…..

I’ll get some glue,

And some wood

And some brackets

He said.

We don’t need shelves,

We’ve got cupboards

And drawers

She replied.

I’ll get some yeast

And flour (strong white)

And a mixing bowl

He told her.

But you burn toast

Add salt to cakes

And set fire to the grill

Three times.

I’ll buy a shed, she said

For you, she said

Then you’ll be happy

She said.

Leaving leaves

IMG_20181122_184435_647

Leaves you have fallen,

Clawed the sky then slumped to the ground.

Wet, damp, cold, you shiver on pavements,

You crush together on grass,

Just a carpet of colour flavouring the world.

Only here in temperate lands, leaves fall each year.

North the evergreens take over, south the rainforest.

Here we abide in heat and cold. Sun and rain,

Leaves leave, love fades, life continues.

Jupiter tryptich finished

Swift photos of the paintings. Taken on the kitchen with a cat hovering and wanting to walk across the canvases. One is a bit overshadowed by the lighting in the kitchen but I wanted to show that they could be hung in various directions.

I showed them to someone and they wanted them! So they will not be available at the Orme group of artists exhibition on Saturday and Sunday but at least I can exhibit them so people can see what I can do…

My poor eyes! Lots of details …

Twigs and blossom

IMG_20181122_004229_653My winter woman has turned into an early spring woman snow is still on the ground but cherry blossom flowers have sprung from the trees twigs and branches, it feels like an old surrealist painting, and I don’t object to that but I wish I coukd do better details .

This has been a fight! Hours of messing about with the shading and shaping of the branches. It’s not finished yet…..but I need a rest. Night all.

Can I add a link?

Check out the Sketch for Survival auction site.

80-a

I have an drawing on an auction site to support a charity which is trying to save endangered species. The drawing is of a mother and baby elephant. I wanted to add a link into the body of this post but couldn’t work out how so its posted at the bottom of this page in the comments section. If you follow the link you should also be able to find art by other artists also in support of the charity Sketch for Survival.

PS thanks to Stoneronarollercoaster I now know how to do it. Thanks!

Light and dark

IMG_20181121_001653_475

I was watching a programme about Joseph Wright, a famous painter from Derby who used chiarascuro to paint fantastic images, from blacksmiths at work to factories and landscapes. His first painting that was bought for the city of Derby. It was paid for by public donation. It was called the Alchemist. Later in his life he went on a grand tour of Europe.  He painted the volcano Vesuvius as an explosion of red lava and dark boiling clouds of smoke and ash.

I tried to do a quick digital sketch of what I saw but it was too complex to represent so I made up my own idea. This was drawn in ArtRage oils and the metallic setting was on about 50%.

I used the drawing tool on 100% for the wider brush strokes and 50% and 25% for the thinner lines. I also had the phone in its side so the image is in landscape format.

Finished

Green brown woman is finished. Ready to go to her new home. I tried to get a 3d effect with light and dark tones. One thing that happens when I try to imagine a subject is that it needs to look at least slightly like it could exist. With this I wanted to try and make the leaves look like they were real, but when you imagine things it does all depend on what you remember, how it’s put together and what colours it has.

Anyway I want the customer to be happy especially since it has taken a few weeks to paint…. Now all I have to do is finish Jupiter before this weekend!

Cat names

IMG_20181120_123533_599

I was just thinking of the names I call my cats, not just their proper names but pet names.

Seamus is also Mouse,

He can be Mus it Tus tat.

Moggie, buggle, pud,

Paws, tatty cat.

Seamus can be fluff,

Great big paws.

He is muscle tough,

Also muggle and Mugs.

Gracie can be girl, girly, sweet paws,

Kitty cat, choochie, mooch, grinkle,

Spooks, cheeky tat, shortie,

Garlic, glory, tiny.

Splash, flash, sassy………

I don’t know where half of these come from. Garlic is because the pattern on Gracies face looks a bit like a garlic bulb. Seamus is mainly Mouse, they know their own names and come when called or in Seamus’s case whistled.

I think I probably call them other things which interchange between the two or cover both of them. Like little batty cats, bat’s, puddy puds, puggles, tusses and cusses.

Don’t ask me why.!

I should be sleeping

DSC_0401

I’m tired. Bed at 3.30am. But up at 8.30am, so tired. I’ve come back up to bed. But I’ve made a critical mistake .I brought my phone up with me. Cue having to keep tipping the phone to read the screen and see the text I’m typing. Cue binging noises to alert me of new stuff on my phone. Cue answering endless emails. Is this extra sleep? No it’s just sitting on the edge of the bed typing…… Note to self. Sleep is more important than the Internet !
