Half ‘n’ half, work in progress.

I’ve started a new painting. My cat decided to climb up being my easle and popped his head out from behind a pastel drawing I’m doing. I decided to do a painting of it.

I’m going to try and do some different paintings over the next few weeks.

Of course I’m using artistic licence tto change the background.

Wash

My cat likes sitting in the bathroom to have a wash. I don’t quite know why. It’s probably quieter than the rest of the house and he’s not pestered by his sister except when she runs in and pounces on him! Yesterday she was sitting on the bath and he walked in she batted his head as if to say get lost. Sometimes they sit at either end of the side of the bath like bookends. I walk in and they are sitting there calmly just chilling. I think it’s most attractive when the afternoon sun slants in and warms the room.

Keeping warm

My cats on their cat tree. Keeping warm. The weather is a lot colder now than it was last week. I gave up and put the central heating on. We were out in the rain earlier and I got soaked. We are having hefty April showers. The sky turns dark grey and then hail and rain pour down. The temperature is about 10 centigrade lower than it was a week ago… Typical British weather.

My friends easter cats

These two were kittens born to my female cat just over two years ago. They seem fascinated by her easter egg decorations. I love seeing pictures of them, they look so like their mother. My friends photo of them shows what characters they are. Into mischief., looking at possibilities.

Their mother is very vocal, she is miaowing at me now. I’d better get her some cat biscuits.

5am

The dawn chorus has started. There is a blackbird singing outside. It’s melody riding and falling. The wind is moaning through gaps in the window. But I don’t mind it, at least I don’t live in a totally sealed box.

I’ve been up for an hour. Stomach pains, nothing serious, just annoying and I couldn’t sleep. The cat rubbed round my ankles then decided to go and sleep on the back of the sofa. She must be a mind reader, she just came back to see me! Little purring cat always cheers me. Oh now the other one is awake. Now we will have catch chase. Like children playing they run up and down. Pouncing on each other, play fighting. Must be to do with terratorial issues. Sometimes I have to tell them off when they get too boisterous.

Well I’d better try and get some sleep. It’s cold in here and I want to snuggle under the duvet. It’s been a cold dry spring so far.

See ya!

Cat washing

FB_IMG_1554981119116

My old cat liked a good wash. He sat in here and went for a spin, (not really). He was so cute but mad. Climbed bookcases to the top, chased the other cats. He was very bright… Not like another stray cat we took in. Sadly we think he died from drinking antifreeze. We think he got into someone’s garage. That was several years ago but I still miss him.

Sun seeker

It’s sunny by the sofa and our tom cat never fails to find the sun. As the light moves across the room he will follow it. Eyelids drooping as he naps. Head nodding. Whiskers splayed in the sunlight. Plants display phototropism, bending towards sunlight. Is this an example of ‘catatropism’ (or would that be humans moving towards cats?).

In the case of these seedlings I have to turn them round because they bend each day towards the light. True phototropism. But the cat has also moved again. _20190411_111757

He’s a true sun seeker.

Wasp

Untitled44_001

Wasp! I’ve stood on one and been stung before now. I don’t like them but I can live with them, except when they built a nest in between some bricks and started coming out into the kitchen when they emerged. I got up one morning and there were a few wasps flying round the kitchen. Two many to catch and I didn’t have any fly spray so I had to hoover them up in the vacuum cleaner. I felt guilty about it. Then over the next week we had more every morning. I had to book pest control in the end.

Now years later I just had a huge wasp fly into the living room. It must have come in from the garden when my partner went outside.

The cats ears pricked up and he started looking up and jumping onto cupboards to try and catch it. I don’t think chewed wasp would be good for him. Then it flew onto the window behind a net curtain.

I shouted my partner as I could not reach. A plastic tub and a magazine were used to trap it, now its free flying around outside.

Phew! Strange how insects can be so upsetting. Wasps are useful for eating pests and pollenation. And thankfully I didn’t have to vacuum it up!
