Taking a walk

I only did a short walk of two and a half miles today. But in my defence my knees and feet are sore and I still walked uphill. I’m on day 33 of my #100daywalkingchallenge, basically about a third of the way through it. I’ve learnt that five miles is about my limit at the moment. Going uphill is somehow easier on my knees than walking downhill. I’ve managed to jog slightly. I like watching the world change as the days lengthen (but are getting colder again). That it’s easier to do two short walks than one long one. And that I can manage without travelling miles in the car as long as I get out and about (oh, and with the car door playing up, so I can’t always unlock it from the outside, it’s a good job I can walk!)

6.73 mile walk

Walk along the Lyme Valley Park in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

It would have been muddy if it hadn’t been so dry over the last few days.

The sun was setting as we walked. We called in a couple of shops for essentials so I was out for three and a half hours. Note to self, get shopping from somewhere closer to home or take two bags instead of one so you can spread the load.

That was going to be a short walk, but I ended up doing over two miles more. Me and my friend seem to egg each other on. (if we go that way we can do a few more steps?).

I Will have a short walk tomorrow. I need a rest!

Dolphin boats

Reflected in the canal, the water is a gorgeous blue. Dolphin boats with its little dolphin symbol on it has been there for years. Its looking a bit tired now. Life is not being kind to it, and with lockdown I don’t even know if it’s open. As well as boat hire they have an air gun shooting range and archery, but we’ve never been in there, just walked past on the other side of the canal….

Walking…..

I never thought I would be doing this challenge. I used to be scared of walking. If I walked a couple of hundred yards I would congratulate myself! I’m so glad I joined in and I’ve already got through 25% of it!

I used to be fit. I could cycle for miles, but after an accident where I was injured I eventually got a car. That was my downfall. Its taken over thirty years to realise I can do something about it. Don’t be scared, have a go!

Today’s walk

I used to drive past these sculptures regularly, but I didn’t take much notice of them. Now I’m walking I see more than before, like these in a local school grounds. I don’t know who made them, but they are interesting, and possibly by the same artist?

I also saw signs of spring. Catkins. Soon the buds will be bursting… But first will be… March…. Winds and rain….

Today’s walk

Weeping Willow outside the Gardeners Retreat pub on our walk today. I took the photo because of the way the wind was blowing its fronds around. The clouds were scurrying across the sky and a pale pink glow was growing on the horizon. It was a warm walk, the rain spitted at the start but then fizzled out and we were walking in a buffering wind. In the end I only walked a short distance, around, 7500 steps, but that’s OK……

Walking

Walking through rain showers today, saw a spectacular rainbow but I couldn’t get to my phone, this was much later on when I went out again. I’d been for my covid19 vaccination and was worried because my arm hurt. But the walk took the pain away. Now it’s just my feet that hurt. I did over 10000 steps for the second day (just over 4 miles). I’ve never walked so far, and up hill too! Taking in the varied city scenery, I’ll take different photos, but I like this viewpoint.
