Polytechnic, School of Radiography, University

What colleges have you attended?

Most of my studies were arts based. But I genuinely think that having an art degree helped me with understanding the imaging techniques of Radiography. I only just passed that course though because I wasn’t very good at Physics.

Life might have been different if I had persued a career as a radiographer. I was very good at positioning patients and producing accurate images. But I got into trouble once because I took an xray of someone and the lecturer said it would be impossible to take it without moving the patient. BUT I had used a very mobile xray machine that you could position at any angle or height. I got the supervising Radiographer to confirm I had done it correctly. Even so I was marked down and given a minimum pass mark for the film. That’s when I fell out of love with that particular course.

Falmouth

I received my certificate from Falmouth University today. I’m not saying what it was or showing the full thing as I know the Internet can be used to steal information and copy your details. But I love their crest. A bird holding paintbrushes, a sailing ship. The words Creative, Connected, Courageous. Doesn’t that say it all? I’m proud to be associated with it. Does it matter that I got it? Yes it does to me. I am proud of my achievement.

A bar in Falmouth

While we were down in Falmouth we called in a bar for a drink. The prices were rather expensive so we only had one drink each. We only went in because they were offering 10% off some drinks for Falmouth University students. But that turned out to be for bottles of champagne, rising from £36 a bottle to over £100! That was the cost of one ersin staying at the hotel. We couldn’t afford that so we had a ‘sangria’ at £5 a glass! Even that was pricey and we all agreed it didn’t look like the normal recipe but the drinks were refreshing after the long degree ceremony we had just come from.

Chocolate coin

Dawn French, comedian, author, actor, amid many other talents, is Chancellor of Falmouth University. She gave the graduation speech for the students who have completed their courses over the last two years or more.

She was handing out chocolate coins to all the graduating students. We have to wait for our certificates to be posted out over the next few weeks. The coins symbolise her status as Chancellor and ‘Queen’ of the University of Falmouth. I was honoured to be handed the coin by her. As I walked towards her all I could say in panic was ‘thank you very much Dawn French in a very loud voice. 😍

My portfolio

One of my portfolio pages on screen. I was pleased by some of the comments about my book. Juxtaposing black and white images against coloured abstract ‘scales’ drawings. I’m not keen on PowerPoint but it’s better than Word for trying to position images. In Word the pages skip about and then you find your picture on one page and the title or the description on another. Now all I need to do is think about getting the book published if I can.

I passed!

I have just received my marks and I have passed the MA in illustration!

Now for the anti- climax I guess. The world is still spinning, I still have my difficulties to deal with. Its funny how you build yourself up and worry, then you get your marks and they are still there. But it is an achievement at one stage I wasn’t sure I wanted to carry on. I got a decent mark too and some pointers on how I could have taken my research further. Will I ever write MA after my name? I don’t think so xx

Found another dragon..

They pop up everywhere! These (there were two of them) were on either side of the gazebo at Betley Court. They had heraldic sheilds with initials carved into them. Such handsome little dragons. I wish I had sern them before I handed in my MA report, I would have added pictures of them to it. Anyway, three weeks to results day. I’m waiting and hoping I do OK.

I’ve published my book!

It’s here!

OK so it’s self published and it’s one copy. I want to find out if I can get it properly published. But it arrived this morning two days early. It wasn’t going to get here till Friday. The roads must have been quiet! It was like Christmas! I kissed it. I cried. I’m so happy with it! It cost way too much, but it backs up all my university work so I’m happy 😊.
