Cat doorstop

DSC_1982

For some reason our cast iron cat doorstop has ended up on the kitchen window ledge instead of on the floor. He peers out from behind the Christmas cactii. My kitchen is full of things that I don’t really need, like plants and ornaments. I need to get rid of some of them… Anyway I took the photo of him a few nights ago while I was downstairs getting a cool drink. The pink candle is one my hubby wants to float on the pond, although I don’t think it will do the goldfish any good..

Typing while asleep

I like blogging, but lately I’ve been nodding off when I’m doing it. I start typing and then I fall asleep. My finger stays on the keyboard and I end up typing random letters like ‘:hh:j=jm

I can’t help it the tiredness is being caused by a lack of sleep at night and then busy days.

Sleep, circadian rhythms….

Dear Agony Aunt,

My sleep patterns have stayed the same for twenty years. Staying up late was to do with being awake when my husband got in from work around 1am. I would then have to get up for work in the morning so was always tired. He could sleep in later as he was on a permanent “noon” shift. Now however he goes to bed a lot earlier than me. If I go to bed early I have to read to relax and then I can nod off. He, on the other hand, must be in a different time zone to me. He goes to bed if I have to go out in the evening. The last two nights when I got in he was in bed by 9.30pm.

Great you say. But then he woke up at 2am as I was coming to bed and we ended up chatting till 4am. It was getting light.

So Dear Agony Aunt, what do I do? Eschew grown up bedtimes and go to bed early. This would have the effect of trying to get us back in sync, but I would have to miss late night TV and news. Or should I just go to bed when I want, which would at least prevent me lying in bed trying to get to sleep for hours. I’m hoping this is a phase. My hubby is getting older but he lives on nervous energy, he’s always moving and talking in the day, and it’s like his batteries have drained in the evening. Maybe I should make him strong coffee….

Sleeping cat

When I got up this morning one of my cats was sleeping on my chair. I stood and watched him for ten minutes till he woke up. He saw me standing there and gave me a look as if to say “no chance” so I went back to bed for an hour! Cats have such a personality for small animals. I find myself constantly talking a sort of baby talk to them! Making up different names and stringing together noises they might like. In fact I begin to think they are alien invaders who have us in their thrall. Until of course I get fed up and pick him up and move him!

Awake

_20181017_235621

Like a napping cat staring bleary eyed into the dawn, I’m awake. I don’t want to be. There is a slight chill in the living room and I’m thinking of snuggling back in bed. To sleep, to not worry about today, who will come to my show? Are enough people interested?

Nerves, that’s what it is. The anxiety in the pit of your stomach. Collywobbles, butterflies, slight palpatations.

Nothing to worry about, I tell myself. Worrying never got anything done, I think. Life’s too short, I mutter under my breath.

So decisions, another decaff coffee or sleep, I know what I will do…..

Busy

I’m busy, tired, aching, rushed,

I’m going to rest

I’m going to sleep

I’m going to bed

Early,

Soon,

So I can wake refreshed

Relieved,

Rested

Reinvigorated…

But not yet

Not for a while,

After this programme….

Oh, now its late

Oops.

Just put up a restful photo from up the top of the hill. It may turn into a painting, but not tonight. It’s from a few days ago. I was to tired to post it before now..

Just waking up

_20190511_234117_optimized

I feel like I’ve turned into a cat, she said, all I ever do is sleep. Even when I’m awake I feel drowsy.

The doctor checked her pulse, looked in her eyes, checked her throat and temperature. Well I can’t find anything physically wrong he said. I suggest you try drinking coffee? Are there any things affecting your stress levels?

Well, that’s it. She said, I feel totally relaxed. Then I feel sleepy. She yawned hugely, see, she said, it’s getting to me now?

So how much time do you sleep at night? Asked the doctor? A good eight or nine hours solid, she said.

Later when she got home she immediately sat down and kicked off her shoes. I’ll put the shopping away later she thought. She never noticed the trickle of white gas seeping out of a hole in the skirting board. The odourless mist wafted gently upwards. Soon she was fast asleep…

Another sleepless night

Untitled49_001

Waiting for the night to turn to light,

For my breath to calm,

For the rushing noise in my ear to stop.

Anything to keep me from harm.

Let me sleep through nights eternal flight,

Let me sleep and miss the noisy road.

My lids are heavy, I start to nod

Leave earth in dreamland

But then I thud

Back into reality

Wide awake

Pull into alarmed wariness

By a noise in my head.

My new washing up sponge.

DSC_2000

Cats are heat seeking, so when I put some of the washing up away, well he jumped up and sat in the warm patch of sunlight!

I’m considering using him as a dish mop or tea towel. I’m surprised he hasn’t jumped into my frying pan.

At one stage he had his head down and started purring loudly. Don’t worry I washed it all again afterwards. The space is now full of draining crockery and I’ve cleared a space for him away from here.
