Freezing rain

The mild balmy weather which is so unseasonal for this time of year now seems to have disappeared. The cats are curled up over the radiator on their cat tower. The central heating is now on full time. The weather forecast is for freezing rain and possibly later on snow. I’m lucky not to be shivering outside in this bad weather. People are living outside in this, finding shelter in doorways and under  sheets of plastic or in tiny cheap tents.

Why is this? Our country has a policy called Austerity. Money has been cut from benefits for everyone. Whether you work or not incomes have reduced since the world crash of 2008 and are only recently starting to increase again. Austerity is said to be over but I can’t see that happening soon.

Now we have the follies of Brexit. Enough said. Government is distracted by this stupid policy and in the meantime people can go to hell in a handbasket.

Will no one listen to the poor, the huddled masses? Not if you live in some of the richest countries in the world, and certainly not if you live in poorer countries.

Democracy, a way of governing by committees and voting. Except it doesn’t always work. I do not think we should be anarchists, but we should try and fix democracy.

Fun fact: 80 men have as much money as half the world’s population that’s

80 : 3,600,000,000 (approx).

So, its freezing rain out there. I’m keeping snug. But who can say what will happen to any of us in future?

Lazy Curry

_20181213_211318

I’m tired and want something quick for tea. I’ve got a few old mushrooms, some king prawns and some baby corn. I’m frying it up with a bit of curry powder.

Then…. I’m going to boil some water and add it to a couple of curry pot noodle things. Once that’s ready I will decant it into a bowl and add the prawn mushroom and baby corn topping…. Noodles with a twist!DSC_0594

Cheers!

Happy

Drawing in two apps, artrage oils and a sketching app. I just wanted to draw a happy face. At the moment my husband is playing with a toy helicopter and it’s not going well. He’s had it caught on the curtains and just gone in the waste paper bin. Meanwhile I’m trying to draw, and then write this. Hmmm… How happy am I … I guess OK, not unhappy, slightly annoyed. But relaxed until the copter comes rushing past my face  The batteries will be flat soon you only get 5 to 10 minutes flying time then it has to be charged for 30 minutes. In the meantime I will carry on Doodling. …

Homebrew

_20181212_225957

Er, that’s a big head on that lager?

Well it is home brewed. ..

Oh how did you do that?

I bought a cask that says brew 8 pints in three days.

How??

Just add water…..

So now I’m sitting trying to drink the brew. It fermented for 48 hours and then had to sit in the fridge for 24 to kill off the yeast. But I don’t think it did, although it is less sweet now than it was when we tapped it 4 hours ago.

Result? Yes it’s OK if you like to drink 3/4 froth and 1/4 lager beer.

The pack cost £10 which is about £1.12p a pint? Also it’s about 4% alcoholic so it’s not bad.

My partner enjoyed making it and as its potable I would say its a qualified success, just a bit too lively!

Ebay and all that.

FB_IMG_1543707119473

I’ve never really got into online shopping or banking. I don’t feel I can trust them.

I’ve thought of using ebay or shopify to sell paintings but I have never done anything. I can imagine it might be a way of selling my art but then when you look into it you can’t really sell things for much and it feels like you would have to paint a high volume of things to make it pay.

I don’t know, maybe I should take the plunge….

Little steps.

The wind is moaning

Untitled9_001

Like fingers plucking at strings, or air blown across the top of a bottle.

We knew we had bought cheap windows. But I didn’t expect the moan when the wind was in certain directions.

First the front window started to ululate gloomily, a long rising note, not too high pitched. Only when we have a northerly wind does it start up with a tune.

Then we noticed one of the kitchen windows joined in with its own moan. This does not happen when the trees are covered in leaves. But when the shelter blows away as autumn progresses the light moaning starts to return, gradually deepening as a storm intensifies.

You really couldn’t get more excellent moans. Just add the motor from the fridge making puppy dog whines as it starts spinning up and you have a whole set of spooky sound effects even when you least expect them.

2012 jotting

I was just reading through my Facebook page and came across this:

Morning world. this is the last time I get my partner up for work early on Sunday as his firm have decided from next week to make it a noon shift (Too many people not turning in after a night on the town?) anyway I watched the sky lighten in the East over the last half hour, first the sky between the clouds turned deep blue then lightened, the cloud tops yellowing then the dark grey of the clouds gradually became a mid grey shade. I watched to see if the street lights would go out but most are still on, just looking dimmer against the brightening sky. Then I remembered the world is turning not the sun rising…. I imagine the movement, thousands of miles an hour as this house and town and city, with me standing looking out of the window at the top of the stairs all moves rapidly and the suns light creeps over the horizon, with the bright morning stars ( if I could see past the houses and shops and clouds) heralding the first bright glimpse of the sun…..

Earache

sketch-1544197370113

I’m sitting here with the cat curled up at my feet and daytime TV playing in the background. I have ear problems, making me feel dizzy.

I went and got tablets so I have been feeling better today. But it means I haven’t been able to get things done that I wanted to. Oh well I’ll be better soon. My partners gone out for a cycle ride before the sun sets. I’m fed up of the reduced hours of daylight and yet we still have 14 or 15 days before the shortest day.

The worst thing is tipping my head side ways… Then everything spins and I feel like the world is dropping away below me. In the meantime I have warm ankles because of the cat! Ah yes and I must get my Christmas cards posted. I’m thinking of putting a tree up this year but leaving it till the last minute  I’m also going to tie it to the wall somehow to keep the cats from tipping it over …  Hmm, when? not now.
