Curled up cat

_20200108_160840

He’s sitting on my chair,

lying on my bed,

eating my food,

drinking my milk.

He’s taking the mickey,

having a laugh,

being very cheeky,

making me wait.

He knows I won’t move him,

won’t pick him up,

put his paws on the floor,

put him out of the door.

He’s a very lucky kitty,

sleeping on my chair,

he should be here..

and I should be there!

Art lunch

DSC_2402

My friend runs something called art lunch, which is basically an excuse for artists and creative to get together and meet up over lunch or tea. She provides the venue and some of the food and drink, but we all bring a little contribution to the lunch. It’s a good place to network and catch up. You find out about things you may never have heard of without going to it. If She’s held them in various venues in Stoke-on-Trent and I’m thinking of offering our garden as a venue in the summer.

There were plenty of artists there and I think everyone had an enjoyable time.

Trying to be an ornament.

Sitting by the black cat,

staring into space,

straight and statue like,

that look on his face.

Looking all innocent,

quiet and still.

Never moved a muscle,

while I looked at him.

Then down on the ground

like a flash.

Tiny shards of pottery

fallen with a crash!

Butter wouldn’t melt,

no sign of remorse,

going to be a statue.

Somewhere else?

Of course!

Bunting

Cloth bunting in a cafe we visited earlier. A simple way to decorate and cheer up a room.

Easily cut out of old cloth or clothes using scissors or pinking shears. Fold over the top of the triangle and stitch up leaving a hollow tube to thread some wool, string, or a line of material through. Or stitch them directly onto the line so they are at regular intervals. I don’t think it would be difficult to make this at home and hand stitch it. A fun sewing project.

Whoever made this chose some pretty patterned and coloured  cloth. It cheered me up.

New years eve

I’m not bothering with 🎇 fireworks tonight, or going out. I’m staying in so I know our cats are safe. I visited some friends last night instead. I will cook a nice meal for us and we can have a quiet drink.

I’ve never really been a party person. It sounds sad, but I like my own company and I don’t really socialise well, I always feel nervous and unsure of what to say.

I hope everyone here has a brilliant day and that you have a wonderful 2020. Life is astounding and amazing, I’m sending warm thoughts to you all.

The lake

DSC_2219_optimized (2)

A view of late summer. Riding on the Rudyard lake light railway train, along the length of the lake. I saw this sailing boat over the other side. Too far away and slightly misty to get a clear view. I love the romance of the scene. Its a long, thin lake. Sheltered by hills on either side. Actually a reservoir for the canal system. I don’t think it ever gets stormy on there. No tides, no rise and fall of water, unless there is a period of drought. A lovely, if busy, place to visit.

It’s out in the hills on a little side road, we have cycled there down steep gradients when I was a lot younger. One road to it is very narrow, with passing places. The other is on the far side of the town of Leek and means an extra twenty to thirty minutes travelling to get there.

One day I will take paints and a canvas to capture the views.

Pensive Elf

Digital sketch. What is she thinking? Who has she left behind. She had thought about staying in the world of men but had seen wisdom and realised that it could not work.

It’s funny how things appear in your mind and what you end up doodling. I was playing with an idea of someone looking back over their shoulder after seeing an image on the TV.

Various problems  with this but it’s nice enough.

Hand painted jug

FB_IMG_1565301009728

My hand painted jug. I chose to paint it with a tortoise shell cat (black white and ginger). With added daisy type flowers. I gave it as a Christmas gift last year. I like keeping my hand in by decorating pottery. I don’t get the chance to do this very often. It came up on my Facebook memories page. I think I did it on a visit to the Emma Bridgewater factory in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
