If you can’t read the writing it says (bit truncated) weeping window, 31. 8.18, middleport pottery.

The drawing is of thousands of ceramic poppies which were displayed on the bottle oven at Middleport pottery, middleport, Stoke-on-Trent in August last year. These poppies had travelled round the country to commemorate the men who had fallen in the first World War.

At one stage the poppies were not going to come to Stoke-on-Trent despite thousands of them being made here. I for one am glad they came.

Colouring in

DSC_2168

It’s doing it again, saving to draft failed. Buy I’m hoping that if I just post this without editing it, perhaps it will post?

Anyway my hubby has been having fun colouring this cat in. I guess it really doesn’t matter that it’s green, as long as he is enjoying doing it. Adult colouring books seem to be the in thing these days. They are good to take your mind off things, they give you the relaxation you need, using enough concentration to give you ‘flow’.

More people could use this technique to help themselves to calm their minds. Life is too stressful, and maybe something gentle like this, taking your mind off things, could help?

Anyway it has posted x. I still don’t understand the draft posting warning I’m getting. Anyone know why?

Drawing again

DSC_2170_20190812_164944_20190812_164910

Two sketches. One yesterday at Astle Park traction engine rally, I drew this at the end of the day when all the vehicles has left the show ring except for this miniature traction engine. I could have just taken a photo but as it stayed still for quite a while I drew instead.

The second picture was drawn outside but then we went into the restaurant as we were being bothered by wasps. I took a photo of the drawing while we were inside. I didn’t realise it was so dark in there with a blue tone to the lighting. I adjusted it with a photo editor. It shows how long it took to get served, the place was really busy. The food was very nice though.

Struck

Digital drawing. Playing with the idea of being struck by lightning.

I used a sketch app with various pens. In this case I had to overlay different pen tools like a sparkler pen or a crackleur one. They gave too much texture so I tried smudging the marks, giving an out of focus look, then building up again with the crackling surface and then using a black spray can pen to take out some of the marks. I posted this on Instagram, but used the clarendon edit on that which gave the image a slightly blue tinge. I’ve posted both versions so you can see the slight difference that makes.

Last choir tonight

DSC_2350

Tonight was our last choir practice until September. We were trying to learn a south seas song called tangihina. It is about a man who has to choose between his lover and a watersprite who had taken her form. He chose the waters sprite by mistake and was swept out to sea.

While I was there I started to draw the singers arriving. I’d began by drawing the chairs but everyone arrived in a rush. I’ve only done one side of the room but that was all I could manage. As it says in the drawing, see you in September!) although it won’t stop me from blogging in the meantime.

Quick sketches

I was sitting by my stall at a craft fair run by market_@_48 at Spode potbank Hotel today. I realised Stoke Urban Sketchers were there so I decided to ask for a couple of sheets of paper and I managed to draw the view from my stall and then of a singer called merrym’n who was singing songs about stoke-on-trent and his songs were very good.

I will post pictures of the craft fair, there were some very interesting stalls.

Loose Tea

DSC_2266

Just found this sketch in my bag. I was trying to explain to my hubby that we had a metal net type thing, two hemispheres of mesh that close up and clip together to hold the tea in. It’s like an old fashioned tea bag. Maybe this is something people could start using again. It would save on paper and you could put just the right amount of tea in just for you……..

The only trouble is I can’t find the darned thing!

2018 drawings.

Last year we went to Apedale light railway and enjoyed a day looking at exhibits of the anniversary of the 1914/1918 War. These are black and white sketches I did. Such an interesting day I thought I would post some of them. Each one has people included. I don’t just draw landscapes if I can help it, I like to include little portraits. When I do urban sketching I will try and include people to give a sense of scale.
