Autumn drawing

I just drew this, it started to get dark but it’s our little acer tree under the Walnut tree, also willow branches, Holly and buddlea.. The view is out of our side window at the top of the stairs. The acer turns deep red and orange and the walnut is starting to go yellow. The Holly is deep green but by the time I got to it, it was going really dark so that part was drawn even more quickly than the rest. This was for our #bandofsketchers prompt today ‘autumn’ the buddlea was also quickly sketched.

Daft alphabet

I was reading a friends blog and she was explaining that she knows some children that use screens all the time so their handwriting isn’t good.

Thought if you added drawings to the letters you could make them interesting and fun. But it’s hard to think what to do, and I’m sure it’s been done before.

Thought I’d concentrate on capital letters first. Some would be easy, like a D turned into a dogs head, or an S for Snake. I’ve doodled a few ideas, greens for consonants, red for vowels.

I don’t know, it needs work, but it could be fun. For instance I’ve turned F into a piece of pie, and V into clock hands, but V could be pie? If I was doing this for real I’d make the shapes more recognisable and also turn it into a colouring game….

Double dragon trouble

A mouth full of teeth? No two! When the dragon egg hatched Ernic did not expect to see this! Double headed dragons were a rarety these days. They were more legend than reality.

The dragon was named Tuis, meaning two, and the villagers became more nervous as it grew. Ernic was given the task of feeding it. But those two heads could eat double what a normal dragon ate. Crunching bone and flesh. Dragons didn’t eat humans but they were carnivores. They would sometimes belch flame but they did not need to tendorise their food, their teeth were strong enough to bite through anything.

A gap of a few months ensued, all was quiet, Tuis continued to grow. But his mood started to change. Now he was angry. It was as if each head had a different mind and they started to squabble. One head was more dominant and no matter how Ernic tried it would grab more food. Tuis one was bigger than Tuis two. It had a darker gleam in its eyes. Shar teeth would snap at its twins head.

Finally it happened that One’s teeth grazed Two’s neck. Snap! The deed was done. Tuis smaller head collapsed forward. Then a look of utter despair came across Tuis face. He crumpled. Double trouble. Dead.

Audrey?

A tiny sketch I did at Youdraw.com of Audrey Hepburn a few years ago. I drew it in a tiny box on the site using a thick and thin black pen and thin and thick eraser. I added the pink later. That’s why the image is pixellated. It’s interesting if you can make something recognisable from only a few marks.

Orme does Picasso

Orme arts autumn challenge. We agreed to attempt to reproduce a Picasso weeping woman painting. We did one or two panels each. I drew the top and bottom middle pages. The top on was mainly marker pens, but I could not get the purple colour so I used a mixture of white, blue and magenta to try and get it. Not right though. I also did the bottom middle panel. In that case I used watercolour paints then a black marker pen over the top.

Even though a number of artists put this together I think there is a good coherence and the squares are well matched. I’m pleased with the result.

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt is ceramic. This is my brown ‘Bessie’ or ‘Betty’ tea pot and a couple of mugs of tea. One of which has the Penkhull Flag on it.

The shadow at the bottom was from my head as I stood and drew in the sunny kitchen. It was just going to be ink and pencil, then I thought why not add colour? It’s a sketch rather than a neat drawing. Hope you like.

Todays ssketch for our band of sketchers prompt was transport…

My old viking queen bike. Bought when I was twenty… I was still cycling a few years ago. Now I’m too nervous so it sits in the living room and gathers dust….Still a great bike, only a small bike frame, but it was chosen because it was just the right size for me. I wish there was somewhere flat I could practice round here…

Basis for a drawing

This was the view I was looking at when I did my Sketch earlier on. As you can see things were a lot darker in reality. I looked more at the shapes, concentrating on drawing them in first, then adding trees and branches afterwards. The silver grey seems to sit back in the background, the tones do not match this photo but does that matter? I keep drawing and hope I’m progressing. X

View out of my front door of Portmeirion pottery. Tried to emphasise the trees. Actually sat in the car as I was letting all the warm air out of the house. I used a gold and a silver pen and a slightly metallic blue and green to make it more interesting. If you’ve got to live opposite a factory I prefer something like this with some trees rather than completely blank walls and nasty smells!

Hubby’s drawings

It’s great to see his drawings, he doesn’t draw very often and definitely has his own style. He bought himself a drawing kit with a drawing board, (a piece of card) some different harnesses of pencils, an eraser and a pencil sharpener. The pictures were his own ideas, the mountainous one is from the cover of a book about the lake district, and the train drawing is taken from a picture on the cover of a leaflet from the Apedale railway. I hope he does more. I’m going to buy him a sketch pad.
