One Whole year here!

sketch-1546537007336IMG_20190103_102720_877

It doesn’t feel like a year! I’ve posted over 600 blog pages and over 10,000 views….. How did that happen?

I do varied posts, from art to poetry, small short stories and hopefully funny stories. I didn’t think I could write so much and such varied things.

I think it’s worth being on here and as long as I continue to enjoy it, and don’t get too foxed by things like blocks and the new Gutenberg editor, I will carry on blogging.

Orchids

IMG_20190103_100622_634

Recently I’ve been buying orchids. I think they have beautiful flowers and the way they grow is fascinating. I’m no expert but I’ve noticed they like potting in transparent pots. I think it’s so light can get to the bark. The plant sits in loose bark and you can get orchid food, which you add to the water you use for them. I don’t think they like tap water, but that’s all we have got.

The pink orchids pictured are a new addition, they are supposed to be scented but I could not smell any perfume. They seem to like a bit of warmth and I’m worried that it might be too cold in the kitchen.

One of the orchids I bought about a year ago has grown lots if ariel roots. It’s had quite a few flower spikes. First they grow bulbous buds which open to form magenta flowers. I’ve cut back all the dead growth and repotted them. I have 5 orchids now. I think they are 3 separate sorts. Hopefully I can keep them going!!

Cold inside

“Brrrr it is getting cold in here” she said. “Put the little oil heater on”. ‘yeah, ok’…

“I’ll have to put my jumper on”…

Half an hour later, “that heater isn’t doing much, and you have had the oven on to bake a loaf. Is the central heating working?” ‘ow yes, the radiator is hot…..’ “so why is it so cold in here?” ‘I don’t know?!’

Half an hour later. ‘I’m just going to water the plants upstairs’…

‘er I think I know why it’s cold….?’

“why?”

‘I left the window open’

‘I’ve shut it now’

🤦‍♂️ Face-palm.

Thai food

DSC_0785

The restaurant where we have Thai food is friendly and interesting. Over the years we have got to know the restaurantier well and she cooks the food we like.

It’s lovely to be welcomed back and feel that we have made a friend. It has now become a situation where I won’t post on trip advisor because you are not supposed to be friends with the restaurant. Its hard not to put on a review because the food is really good, but I follow rules and don’t like breaking them.

One thing that does bother me is when people reserve a table and then don’t turn up. They don’t always ring to cancel. There have also been occasions where they order take aways then don’t collect.

Having spoken to the owner of the restaurant it does seem that some people don’t like her being there because she is foreign. I think their behaviour is wrong. She is a talented cook and she should be allowed to go about her business without having such problems.

I do feel ashamed of people in this country because we are not always fair.

Last Day

IMG_20181231_004633_980

It’s the last day of 2018. 2am, only 22 hours to go till 2019.

How do I feel. Well I’ve started then stopped doing a couple of things this year, including not being able to get to urban sketchers because it clashes with another art group. Not persevering with trumpet lessons because I was feeling down, and almost giving up on archery because I’ve been too busy.

The wonderful thing is though that I have tried my hand at these things. Where before I never had time to do them. I know I need to get back to them and I think when we have brighter days I won’t be in such a hibernation mode. I guess part of it is trying to do more with my partner. I don’t want him to be isolated. He needs to get out there and do things but his mind is not in a good place..

I know there is a lot of talk about mental health but I won’t go into details. I just wrote a long paragraph explaining it all  then decided to delete it. Sometimes things need to stay private.

So anyway, we are passing from one year to the next. It’s an arbitrary marker of time. I guess it does signify the return of the Sun over the next few months. Time does seem to go faster with age. Clocks tick…….

So as the season is merry I shall wish you all a happy healthy and fun 2019.

Headache

FB_IMG_1546128347939I’ve been woken after two hours sleep by a headache. My shoulders are also aching and my nose feels stuffed up. I thought I was doing remarkably well to avoid the festive lurgy that lurks at this time of year, but maybe not.

Two paracetamol and a cup of warm decaff coffee is all I can take to ward off this possible cold. I won’t say it’s worse than that because I don’t know yet… .

If I start snuffling or sneezing or even coughing I shall know then….

Going back to sleep. Night all.

Finding butterflies 🦋

Sometimes I see something and I know it could be morphed into something else. Here I took a picture of railway lines and turned it into a pattern for a butterfly.

It also appears to me like a horses head tipped down and facing right. I might have a go at morphing it into that image.

Patterns spark my interest. As a child I woukd make faces and animals by looking closely at patterned wallpaper  or see dragons or Pegasus in the clouds.

I’m glad  a dreamer. I would encourage anyone to look at the shapes around them. Pattern is embedded in the Universe. You only have to look at the spiral shell of a snail to imagine galaxies or whirlpools.

Spoonerism

sketch-1546094305002.png

Definition from Wikipedia :

“Spoonerism

A spoonerism is an error in speech in which corresponding consonants, vowels, or morphemes are switched (see Metathesis) between two words in a phrase.[1][2] These are named after the Oxford don and ordained minister William Archibald Spooner, who was famous for doing this.

An example is saying “The Lord is a shoving leopard” instead of “The Lord is a loving shepherd.” While spoonerisms are commonly heard as slips of the tongue, and getting one’s words in a tangle, they can also be used intentionally as a play on words.”

I only mention this as I was talking to the cat this morning and said “you’ve got pappy haws this morning”. Of course I meant “happy paws” but it struck me how often you can get words mixed up ….

I don’t know how much I will be online over the next couple of days, so I will say Yappy Hew Near! Or Nappy Yew Hear!
